new air filter? Or old intake?

I can hold the current AF up to light and it isn't blocked. Looks almost new. I was thinking that maybe, with the stock air tunnel attached, it should have gotten about 16.0. rather than 16.8. Then the change wouldn't have been so dramatic. In any case, the K&N "open" unit looks pretty cool. :-)

Took the '78 to the strip yesterday

I would put my m oney on the manual. Justr because it would probably get a better start (with lower gearing).

Took the '78 to the strip yesterday

Yep. Called the "hole shot". I tried manually shifting and letting the car do it. The car was morte consistent. If I had a manual, I'm not sure if I would have done better, as the tach showed it shifting at the redline each time. However, with a 4sp (vs the 3sp auto), the lower gearing might...

new air filter? Or old intake?

Could it be "that bad" without the funnel set up? Such that, removing the filter affected it so much?

    Seat frames...

I have a '78 and the frames on the seats are damaged. The leather is still in good shape. I have come across a guy who has a 'vette with a smashed up front end. He is willing to sell me the seats from it. I only wants the frames. Since I can't find any anywhere, what would you think is a good...

new air filter? Or old intake?

I found, from running at the strip yesterday, that I can gain 1.5 seconds by removing the air filter and top plate. I was thinking about replacing the stock unit with the K&N unit that has the "open" top. However, as I was looking in my Haynes manual, I saw an air tube starting from a collector...

Took the '78 to the strip yesterday

A bunch of us headed up to Rock Falls Raceway, Rock falls, Wisconsin (used to be Amber Green) yesterday. It was "Muscle Car Day". I thought I would see what the Vette would do. I was figuring on mid 16s. It is an L48 automatic. My 1st run was bone-ass stock. It turned a 17.047 (reaction time...

    Sports Car or Muscle Car

If I remember right, when deLorean and his boys introduced the GTO package to the 64 Lemans, the muscle car era was born. However, 4 years earlier Chevy had a car with some 'nads, the 409 impala(?). It didn't get the hype of the GTO, though.

    Sports Car or Muscle Car

I put the Corvette as a sports car. My '64 GTO was a muscle car. Designed to go 1/4 mile in as little time as possible. Take a "family" car (Lemans) and add horsepower.

    Leaking caliper piston

You guys (and gals) are super. I did decide to order the clip anyway. I butchered the brake line with vice grips, so figured 'What the Hell?" as long as I have to wait for a brakeline, I might as well... I also bought a brakeline wrench :-) Thanks for all your suggestions and comments.

    Leaking caliper piston

Is it easy (possible?) to hold the pistons in without the tool? I am getting a new caliper after work and would like to get it installed, and not wait a week for the clip.

    Leaking caliper piston

Good things to know. I tried rebuilding a Master Cylinder on am MG Midget once. Met with limited sucess. My tool supply is about as long as my mechanical skills. :-)

    Leaking caliper piston

I am looking for some confirmation on my thoughts. Last month I was having a "dragging" noise from my '78 whenever I would leave from a stop. After A few seconds it would go away. I took it to a local shop. I was told that the right rear caliper was leaking. The mechanic showed me the mushy...

    Carb gasping

The replies are all great, folks. Looks like I've got some work to do.

    Carb gasping

I have a 78 L48. As far as I know, it is bone stock. When it is cold (under 200 degrees), I really have to feather the carb when I leave from a stop. If not, it will gasp and die. Embarassing, to say the least. However, once it hits 200 degrees, it takes off nice and smooth. The guy I...

    Modifications

With me, it's got to be "first things first". Since my wife also likes to drive the Imposter, I need to work on some cosmetics. This year I had the frame straightened and some brake work done. Next year, I need new seats and new T-Tops. Then (2006) I can start adding some ponies to it. I am on...

    Need help diagnosing a problem

When my '78 had "appears dead" problems, I took a wire brush and cleaned the battery connections. Haven't had the problem since.

    WTB: C3 seats

I have a 78. The driver's seat frame is all messed up. The bolts, rather than pointing down, point forward. Sit reclines way back. Will seats from a 79 fit a 78?

I have to admit I am wrong....

True enough. I've had a '64 GTO, a '79 Midget, and now a '78 Vette. Some people just live right. :D

Let me ask my weekly dumb question...

No leaks. I drove 'er through a good MidWest gully washer and stayed dry as toast. It just like weird engineering to have that gap. I double checked and the hardware on the tops is right where it should be in the frame. Everything lines up fine. Oh well. Just got back from another $300 trip to...
