    MAF sensor screen

I took mine out ('89 L98) about 10 years ago, have had no problems - but can't say that I noticed any performance improvement either.

Hood cable/latch is broken - Dealer is no help

Hey y'all: This sounds like so much fun, I think I'm going down to Home Depot, get me a brass rod, bend it up as recommended, and practice on my hood BEFORE the cable breaks! So I'll know how when it does. BTW, that "Corvette wave" thing: used to be ALL sportscar owners waved like that to...

How to check Timing on '89??

Gentlemen: Thank you both! I've found it now, and the timing is "spot-on" as we used to say when I drove Brit sportscars, before I saw the light! (Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is just the headlight of an oncoming train!) Regards, - R

How to check Timing on '89??

Thanks, but I was hoping for a little insight as to WHICH wire that is! I see lots of them in that vicinity.

It's me! And I still could use some help! Thanks in advance, y'all. - R

    vibration on my 1994

You're fortunate. It can be done, if there is only a single-plane imbalance and if the tire balancer can by luck or by a series of trials find that plane and locate the balance weights in it. In the more general case, however, I wouldn't rely on that method. Regards. R

    Magnaflow Mufflers are installed

First things first: There's NO need to do mandrel-bend pipes on one of these cars, with an ordinary engine! I've done the flow-bench measurements, and the difference between mandrel-bend and open-bend piping, especially in 3-inch, is negligible; it's within the limits of test variabillity. As I...

Anyone running straight cat converters on their C4???

If you want to try the Dynamat stuff, put it primarily in the rear luggage area and backwall of a coupe. Putting it under the seats and in the footwell area would be a waste. The noise you'll be dealing with is coming from the tailpipes. But then, I think a great deal of it will be...

Anyone running straight cat converters on their C4???

In all seriousness, you could alwys get a set of those noise-cancelling headphones. Bose and others make fairly effective sets, available by mail-order and a gadget places like Brookstone. I've used them, they work well against the very low frequencies that will be present in your car. A...

Anyone running straight cat converters on their C4???

It'll be LOUD! Unbearably loud. Window-rattling, neighbor-annoying, wife-riling loud! Loud enough to announce your arrival to cops for blocks. But if that's what you want...

    Magnaflow Mufflers are installed

My personal recomendation would be to leave the mufflers off, then... ;) If I were you, starting from scratch, I might have gone with a size or three smaller pipes, like 2-3/8" or at most 2-1/2" tubing. There's a little better sound quality when the pipes aren't oversize. But if it works for...

    Magnaflow Mufflers are installed

What have you done? By all means, let's revive this thread! There's bound to be SOMEONE out there who has redone his exhaust and is happy with it! Regards, R

Anyone running straight cat converters on their C4???

The only problem you might have is that your '91 doesn't have a mass-airflow meter, and won't be able to compensate for the significantly increased airflow when you've taken off the mufflers. It may well run very lean, leaner than is ideal for max power. You'll be able to tell by looking at...

    nose job

Yes; I highly recommend making a chart and labeling each and every screw you remove - no two appear to be alike, and you'll play h3ll finding replacements at your local hardware store!

    Magnaflow Mufflers are installed

I definitely recommend the rear 'Y'-pipe with cross-tube: I guess you've gathered we developed it in Shelbyville, then when Stacy Smith went to Walker, he took the design with him! But it works. And as for keeping the peace, and if you don't have a "race" engine, just want to enjoy a...

    nose job

I just recently did this job on my '89, and I can tell you, it is every bit as time-consuming as that 7.5-hour "flat-rate" estimate suggests. However, it can be done with the simplest of handtools. I recommend removing the energy absorber (four screws) rather than trying to work from the rear...

    Sticky Hood Latches

And proper striker/latch alignment. Getting this right is especially important if the hood has been off for any reason, or if there's been ANY collision work on the front end. And this is one REALLY frustrating, tedious, time-consuming job! (Or I could be a complete maroon...) - R

    Magnaflow Mufflers are installed

ocrick: I'm now at Peterbilt in Denton, Texas. Trying to make those big trucks quiet! (Success eluding me, must press on regardless...) Regards, R PS: Visited Calsonic around last Thanksgiving, current management has managed to fritter away both the Corvette and Mercedes (ML-series) exhaust...
