    Air Relay.....again

I know I have read about this before, but a search did not find it for me. So what does this relay do? And more importantly, can I remove it? The service manual is not much help....the wiring schematic does not go into any details...at least that I have found at this point....still looking...

    MAP Sensor Replacment Question

Mine's a St Louis baby as well.

    My heartbreak. Please come in.

This is completly upsetting.....I know from the years I have been on here of all the work you have done and how you enjoyed this car. Be nice if you got the chance to have a few "words" with the punks that took it from you. Hopefully you will get some "good" out of knowing that the parts from...

    MAP Sensor Replacment Question

I got it from a non-Corvette vendor along with some other parts that I needed. Thought it would just be handy to have, just in case. I think it will fit the 95 or 96 Corvettes...just not the 81. I searched and found several sites that list a MAP sensor for the 81...but of course cannot see...

    MAP Sensor Replacment Question

Just wondering if the exact replacement for the MAP sensor is still available or not? I got a replacement MAP connector (just in case) and found that the connector keying is different; it will not plug into the '81 MAP sensor. So has anyone had to replace the MAP sensor and had to splice in a...

Question: 3000 RPM at 55 mph

Costs Like said above, it is not the gears that are expensive, but the rebuild of the differential. You can get complete diff swaps online that will run you about $1000 with all shipping involved. You can take the one out of your car and take it to a shop and probably end-up spending $700...

    Question: Test lead

I have not checked the wiring schematics, but I do not think the aux fan will come on when the AC is switched on....that came to be in later years. As far as I remember the fan switch in the head is a direct connection for the 12V return, so there is no relay in the circuit. You could remove...

    Question: Test lead

+12V Power Source You can uplug the underhood lamp connection located in front of the driver's side front fender. A bit difficult to get clips on the contacts without shorting though....but possible. Just using the fan connector is the best choice....just be sure to check which one is +12...

    Question: Parking Brake

Common Failure Part What usually breaks in the parking brake is the spring between the top of the shoes. The parking brake lever will move and you can adjust the cable until out of travel but never get any resistance. Now if you have had the rear rotors off, it is easy to slip off the wheel...

    Running RICH....options?

Last time I had the carb apart I cleaned all the air ports with a wire, carb cleaner and air pressure. So I am pretty sure that all is good there. And yes I know the narrow band O2 sensor output is not linear...almost a vertical line between .3 and .8 volts. I doubt the DMM loaded the output...

    Running RICH....options?

Agree........what I did was more of just an experiment to see what would happen, if the carb adjustments would make any difference, etc. I am not gong to spend the money to get a wide band sensor....just having some fun on a Sunday morning.

    Running RICH....options?

Engine was hot when I was doing all of this. Did not take it driving...all of this is at idle. And you are correct the curve is very steep at 14.7 A/F ratio...almost a vertical line. I had the air filter housing off. And the CCC was in closed loop as the dwell was varying as I made...

    Running RICH....options?

So I tapped into the O2 sensor output so I could monitor the O2 output with a DMM and adjust the idle mixture, dwell, etc....so I could try to get near the 14.7 A/F ratio which would be 0.5Vdc. Did not matter what I did, adjust the idle air mixture screws or idle air bleed valve screw...I could...

    Fan Switch Observation

I am not sure at what temp the fan comes on at....just noticed the fan is on when I opened the hood after a short drive. Temp gauge is showing the same as it has always shown....just below the 200 mark. It is the old two wire style and it is not shorted as the fan does not come on until after...

    Fan Switch Observation

I do not think that their is a problem with the fans running....just something I noticed. The water temp gauge shows the same as always....so not sure how accurate it is since I changed out the original sender....but it shows about the same position as it did with the iron heads, actually two...

    Fan Switch Observation

Since installing aluminum heads I have noticed the electric fans are running now....never did before with the iron heads. I checked the switch and it is good, not shorted. So just wondering if this is "normal" operation due to the aluminun heads and higher compression or is it perhaps...

    Crankcase Vent Filter

Yes a cork will plug the round hole in the white plastic filter, but not the opening in the air filter housing..which is what I want to do. I want to completely remove the white plastic filter out of the housing and block-off the opening. Something to work on...

    Crankcase Vent Filter

Picutre Uploaded... Finally put those pictures up that I have been promising to do. Now I just need to figure-out what to do with the plastic hose connection sticking-out of the air filter housing. It is not round, so a plug will not work....I'll figure something out one of these days. And...

    Engine temperature sensor

Pull the connector off the sensor in the left cylinder head and push-in one end of a resistor into the connector....use something between 10 and 100 ohms. Connect the other end of the resistor to frame. Turn ignition key to ON and see what the gauge shows. If still pegged to the left...then the...
