    CC's for 86 heads

Thx guys, I may have a line on a set of new LPE D-port heads that a guy needs to sell and have never been used. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

    CC's for 86 heads

Does anyone know off hand how many cc's the stock combustion chambers of the '86 alluminum heads are. And did that change during the course of the L98 until the LT1 came out?

    383 or 350?

That may have to wait for a later project.:)

    383 or 350?

Thanks Grumpy for that tid-bit of info. Very interesting data. Some of those shops that Hib refered to are not too far from me either. ....Worth checking into. Thanks again, you've been a great help!

    383 or 350?

Thanks Grumpy for the link. I will contact them to discuss my options. If it looks like a big PITA to change over to roller, I may just stick to the hydrolic tappet. Although, I found out that I can buy an new 87 bare block fitted for the roller lifters for $225. Don't know how good of a...

    LT1 Intake Manifold Seal

Sounds about right. I had the same fix on my LT1 and it was in that $ range.

    Cost of replacing Clutch/Flywheel

Well, I'm on the west coast, but at least give your thread a hit. New clutch and resurface for my 4+3 was $675.

    383 or 350?

Ok you made your point. I'm going to get a second opinion on Monday. I know another mechanic in town that used to build race engines. I'll call him to see what he thinks. Thanks Black Bart

    383 or 350?

Ok, after much discussion w/ my machinist, I've decided to go with the 383 stroker. Most likely an Eagle rotating assembly. Grumpy, you are on the right track with what I was thinking for a cam in the 210/218 @ .50 area, maybe in the 475 lift range? Also, I was hoping to go roller, but my guy...

    Block ID

Thank you for the info. I had a feeling they weren't Vette blocks since I wasn't able to match the ID numbers. But I thought I would turn to the pro's at CAC to make sure. This site is the best. Thanks again!

    Block ID

My dad has a couple of old 283 engines in his garage that were given to him way back in the day by a guy claiming they were Corvette engines. Only thing is, I'm having trouble identifiing them in the Black Book and was wondering if anyone might know what we have here. 1) Block stamp = T T 0...

My dilemma. Should I buy rims in pairs?

Speaking as a father of 3 daughters - Very cool!:beer

My dilemma. Should I buy rims in pairs?

You can count on it! If you're getting a little grief now, it's not going to get any better after the rings are exchanged. I don't have this problem because my wife digs the cars anyway. But as far as other issues go, you'll find out that the things that bother her now really get under her...

    383 or 350?

That's all very good advice to consider. And most likely I will try to get the most for my money, starting w/ the rotating assembly. I can do head work and/or intake swap later. Due to additional cost, I just don't want to "over build" the engine so that it forces me into head and intake work...

    383 or 350?

Thanks for the advice. I don't plan on keeping this a street car so smog is not an issue. But I don't have $10K to spend right now. I may have to settle for a straight rebuild for now w/ minor performance improvements.

Who did your computer tune and what is necessary to have it done? Do they just need to know your mods?

    383 or 350?

Ok, Those are all very good points to consider. So, if I go with the 383 stroker, up my comp. to 10:1 or 10.5:1, add a perf. roller cam (any recomendations helpfull), 52 mm throttle body & Headers, do you think I can get by with the stock heads and intake? I do have a budget to consider, but...

    383 or 350?

I've decided that my '86 is going to need a rebuild & was thinking about having the engine rebuilt to a 383. But I talked to a very reputable engine builder in town that suggested since I use this car for Auto-X and Track days @ road course events, I shouldn't do a 383 conversion and just bore...

    Throttle Body Coolant Line Bypass

Not trying to be a smart azz, but I always thought air had oxygen in it Or does oxygen have air it?;) Regarding the TB bi-pass - This theory may be way out there, but I have always wondered...What if the radiant air temperature around the engine bay is warmer than the coolant (assuming you...
