    C4 versus C5 ????????????

I had a 96 LT4 convertible and now have a 2000 automatic. The braking is better on the C5 as is the overall handling. Performance is hard to judge because the LT4 was a six speed with a performance axle, but the C5 runs very well. The auto trans snaps through the gears with nice firm shifts. My...

    CHALLENGE- LT4 Vs C5- C6 STOCK COMPITION

Like you, I had a 96 LT4 and now have a 2000 LS1. The LT4 would fly but so does the LS1. I don't know which would win but there has to be a lot of data out there for 1/4 mile times on both. As for an LT4 beating a 2003 or 2004 LS1 or a ZO6 - I don't think so. There is too much of a horse power...

    C5's In The Snow

:) Don't get me wrong, I love a great looking Vette. My 96 had over 107,000 miles on when I sold it, but the paint still gleamed, then engine compartment was spotless and I had put new seats in it. It looked really good. A well maintained car speaks volumes of how well it was cared for when you...

    C5's In The Snow

Let's hear it for a daily driver!! :D Time for another view. I am driving my 4th Vette: 62, 73, 96 and now 2000. I drove all but the 2000 in snow and simply haven't seen snow since I got that one. The 62 and 73 could go in almost anything better than most cars because of the positraction. The...

Allow SO or spouse to drive your vette alone?

I let my wife drive my Vette by herself but she has only done so a few times. When I had a six speed she didn't drive it at all and would not try. My 2000 is an automatic and she enjoys driving it. But if your SO is not a husband and may not become one, I see no reason to give him free access...

Advise for installing replacement convertible top

I had a 96 LT4 convertible and now have a 2000 convertible. The tops are very different, secure differently and the top's framing is different. The C5 does not snap the rear into the toneau to secure it like the C4 does, the C5 top only secures on the front windshield frame. The C5 top is raised...

The Love of the Corvette vs. The Pain In the Wallet at Fuel Up

My wife's SUV gets about 15mpg tops. My vette is a daily driver and my current tank is averaging 23.5mpg.

Consumer Reports Rates Corvette in Top Three

Consumer Reports is bias free because they do not accept advertising or donations from companies and they buy their test cars from a dealer just as we would. They don't avoid negative reviews or statements because of a fear of losing advertising revenue like many other magazines do. That said...

    ByCU

I've had to move away from a Vette a few times also. It was not fun and it made the eventual return that much sweeter. Wish you the best in your self imposed exile. The one thing we know for sure is that after a few years in a TBird you will be dying to return. Hopefully, your wife will as well...

    ABS/Traction Control DIC message

I recently experienced that on my 2000. I got the traction control and the active handling warnings. The dealer checked it out and reported that the EBTCM module was not producing a torque signal, so they replaced it. Like you, I was getting the error sometimes and other times not. Fortunately...

    C4 vs C5 - long read

The owners manual says that you are okay at or above 900rpm. I had an LT4 6 speed and could do 60 in 6th with no trouble. Although, I had the performance axle ratio option, which may have made a difference.

How right you are. My wife says that getting into and out of the C4 was like getting into and out of a bathtub. :L And she will drive the 2000 but would not touch the 96. Hmmm, maybe that's a minus :eyerole ?

All the C's I have had a 62, a 73, a 96 and now a 2000 - all convertibles and all but the 2000 with the manual trans. The 62 was more comfortable on a long trip than the 73, which was terrible. The 96 was an LT4 and the power was evident in almost all gears. Never took it on a long trip but...

    paging c4c5specialist

St. Louis ELCO Chevrolet has a Corvette Specialist who is very experienced and does most of the Corvette work - all years. I think they let others do simple things like oil and filter changes, but he does the mechanical work. He's the one that put new pistons in my engine last month. The...

    Just Joined the C5 Club!

I went through the same conversion a few months ago. I sold my '96 LT4 Artic White convertible and bought a 2000 with an automatic transmission. I am still trying to put the difference in words. It's smoother in every way but the power is there when you get on it and it corners like a slot...

Looked at a 2000 vert today

If you could get the dealer to replace the tires or deduct $1000 for you to do it, that would be a start. Then check with the local Chevy dealer and see what they would want to check the car over and service it (lube, oil, filter, etc.) and ask the dealer to deduct that. Then ask them to have a...

Looked at a 2000 vert today

I believe there are companies that specialize in removing the smoke smell. A car fire is a typical situation where they would be used. My Mom had a car where the engine caught on fire from a gas leak. The dealer repaired the damage and had some company remove the odor. I don't know what they did...

Daily Driver - How many miles.

My 96LT4 had 107,000 miles on it and I drove it about 55 miles in the daily commute. Use Mobile One, change your filters and you should be fine well past 200,000.
