The rear main is a common place for these Gen 1 small block chevy engines to leak. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to prevent it from leaking. Even if you manage to stop it temporarily, it will eventually come back.
You can test your spark plug wires with an OHM meter. Just look up how to test spark plug wires with OHM meter on google....plenty of videos and articles. I would not have purchased the heavy duty points, but they should be ok, assuming you paired them accordingly with your ballast. You...
My post above with Dukes info is to reference good replacement points that are the correct spec for his given ballast resistor. Hopefully it will help him out. I guarantee there is something simple going on due to a mismatched set of parts, faulty parts, bad float, etc.
No rush in getting...
Good reading on points. I have no idea what coil or ballast resistor you purchased, so it will be hard to help you without that info.

Default NAPA Echlin ignition points (contact set)
Over the years there has been confusion over the various contact sets sold by NAPA...
I don't think the problem is baffling. It's probably something quite simple that is being overlooked. Just because you replaced the pertronix with points, does not mean that the points are not now the problem.
Your intake is actually not a high rise. It's more or less a standard...
I don't believe you have a carburetor problem, especially if your timing is bouncing around.
A few questions
1. Do you have a picture of your engine with the air cleaner off?
2.You say you have a high rise intake, which one? Is it dual plane or single plane?
3. What carburetor is...
Unfortunately, I don't have time to read through the previous posts, but Im going to assume after 3 pages that most everything has been tried to resolve this issue. I've only had the same issue with one car before, a 64, and I literally tossed money at everything trying to fix it. I followed...
Re: 1967 Corvette Coupe Restomod Build Thread
I used the original seats because I just really don't care for the look of aftermarket seats in a convertible, especially when they stick up above the deck lid. All new leather, foam, etc. and I also added seat heaters for those colder fall or...
And here is the current progress. I have been going full time on the car for the last 10 days and I am finally entering the home stretch of the build.
The car already had a custom stereo, so I decided to leave it in place. Hopefully the future buyer will enjoy a lot of bass!
Someone had...
I've done two like this and this will be the last. It's a labor of love for sure, but I just don't have it in me anymore. The amount of time, money, and space that is needed to fix a car with a rusty birdcage is just overwhelming.
I am sure there are more than a few out there with questionable...
I have a decent size shop. I never intended to get this many projects going at once, but since two were not as advertised and ended up being major projects needing excessive amounts of body work and new panels, I've become backed up since I put those two on hold. I actually have 4 Corvettes...
Variations in fiberglass. The joints on the skirts will vary a lot and are adjusted with more or less adhesive to make the fenders level with the hood. There really isn't a set standard, just whatever makes the hood fit your fenders the best.

I spent the last two days prepping the roof to be reinstalled. The pine tar crap someone applied to the underside of the roof was a nightmare to remove. Also, whatever goo they used to bond the roof on smelled like cat urine, especially when heated. It was so bad I started dry...

I sanded the upper window surround, removed the old seam sealer, sanded the surface rust off the upper birdcage, sanded the wiper cowls, coated the inside of the upper cage with black epoxy primer, sealed the lower window channel with 3m panel bond, sanded the cage again, sprayed with...

Not much going on with this build. I set the new front end on the car, but I am still waiting on the louver panels, L88 67 Hood, and taillamp panel from Sermersheim.
In addition, I haven't heard from the guy that was supposed to make my quarter panels, so I will be ordering the...

Birdcage looks excellent...just needs a good cleaning followed by some new paint and sealant.
Not sure what the mess is in the wiper cowl pockets, but it breaks loose pretty easily.

I'm in about 25 hours on stripping the paint with a razor...

Well, after poking around a little more I discovered the front end is just way to fudged to repair for this car. So, off it came. After removal I discovered two mice nests in the birdcage. I was wondering where the smell was coming from that I could not eradicate...
