    The Lenz Effectt

Those transmissions look too clean. How do ya keep your fiberglass from rusting if the transmission isn't leaking oil? :D

    C3 Windshield Replacement

Any competent glass company should be able to replace a windshield in you car. For a recommendation of who to use, look/ask around for corvette clubs in your area and ask for a recommendation for who to use. For help locating a club, go to the National Council of Corvette Clubs website and look...

    Silicon DOT 5 Brake Fluid

I know who in Texas you are talking about Gary & have never bought or used any thing that they sell. I think the saying "Just because you can doesn't mean you should" applies here. If JB Weld was a safe & approved brake caliper repair method, there would have been an magazine article covering...

    Question: 1968 Corvette L88

429 isn't a '68 interior color code, and there are not any listed option codes as 429. My best guess would be a date code - April 29, work shift "A" perhaps? I believe that at the time, Chevrolet was running 2 or 3 work shifts on the production line. Does 429 relate to the build date on the trim...

    Silicon DOT 5 Brake Fluid

In either the 1978 or 1979 Chevrolet Shop Manual, Chevrolet recommended, for the first time, sealing the piston to piston seal using RTV, a move I believe to help prevent moisture collecting in the caliper bores. Back around 1980 -1981, I converted a 1978 to silicone brake fluid, and as far as...

Uh, Tom, I believe that is suppose to be sperm whale oil. :rotfl

low speed clunk in rear end

One other item to check is to see if the spring perch on the rear cover is broken.

    Question: Fuel sender ground

I once had a supervisor who told me that I was full of ideas, just not all of them were good ideas... Good luck with your repair, whichever way you may decide to proceed. Best Regards, Bob

Help! distributor what new one to install on 81 with all smog and computer removed new carb intake

I would think that one of the HEI units that GM specifies for use with the ZZ crate motors would be a good place to start.

    Question: Fuel sender ground

I will need to go swing under the 72 in the morning and refresh my memory of the wiring to the sending unit. As I remember it, the ground tab on the sending unit is a male spade type terminal with a female spade terminal on the harness. I would think it would be easy to fab a short jumper from...

    Packing Rear Wheel Bearings

Never seen Gary's position on this, but my position is to never polish a stub axle to achieve a slip fit with the axle bearings. The axle bearings need to be a press fit.

    Question: Fuel sender ground

You could try getting a small worm gear hose clamp and attaching it to the metal portion of the fuel line coming out of the tank, and attaching your ground wire to the clamp.

    Question: fuel problem i think.

You are aware that there is a sock filter installed on the end of the pick-up inside of the gas tank in addition to the filter located just before the carburator?

    Question: manuals

If you are not familar with the assembly manual, the first half is made up of drawings for a base vehicle and the back half is made up of drawings for the installation of the options that was available at the time your car was built. The option sheets are labeled by the option code, which will...

    Help! Power seat not working

Was the seat working and then quit? or just worked sometimes? Exactly what led you to replace the switch? Never worked on a power seat but like the power windows, I would expect a power seat to have a relay to handle the amps. A power window car usually has the relay mounted under the console...

1978 C3 steering too tight, too sensitive

Wow, what a thread. I think the best advise here came from GTR1999 to not debate tire pressure. And with that, I'm out of here. Best of luck finding and repairing your steering problem.

    First Vette

Congrats on your first Corvette. I would suggest that you see if there is a Corvette club local to you that you could join. Club members will have suggestions and opinions as to who to use and who to stay away from concerning having your car worked on. Just cuz they have a Corvette picture in...

1978 C3 steering too tight, too sensitive

Twichy Steering Is this a car with manual steering converted to power steering? On a manual steering car, the steering arms (which attach to the spindle) have two positions for the tie rod end. The forward hole in the steering arm is for normal steering, the rear ward hole is for fast steering...

    The Advantage Of Synthetic Oil

At one time, Mobil stated that when using their synthetic oil, that you should follow the manufactors oil change schedule. So if GM says change oil every 3000 miles for your 1968 batmobile, you should change the oil at 3000 miles wheter you are using conventional or synthetic oil. They make no...

69 big block with ac idler pulley belt routing question

I have a 69 & a 72 BB. The idler belt on both of my cars is a Gates #17330. Your local parts house may not carry Gates belts, but they should be able to cross that belt number over to whatever brand they do carry. As noted, the idler runs on the outside of the belt. That is, the belt runs...
