It is my understanding that the throwout bearing is under light pressure and rotates at all times. Under load when disengaging the clutch it might make noise if it is going bad.
The pilot bearing or bushing can make ah awful noise when you release the clutch. How many miles since you had the...
If the clutch is the same as a 90 then I think the disk would catch on the flywheel bolts.
I installed new flywheel and clutch kit a couple yrs ago and my engagement is closer to the floor than the top of the travel. I am not so sure you have a problem as long as it isn't slipping.

On my 90 convertible there is a cross brace on the frame... guess where the filter is... yep right on top of it. Makes it difficult to get wrenches on the fittings. Next time I change mine I may just remove the cross brace first.

Is the bracket steel ? If so find someone with a torch and have them braze it . Or find someone with a TIG welder and have them weld it. The guy with the TIG can also braze it .

You have to be careful about those kinds of loans, the interest rate could eat you alive.
If you replace it and buy from a dealer check to see what they have available.

I had the rear qt repaired on my red 90, if you don't blend you will see it. When they repaired mine they did blend but there were issues later that had to be repaired again. It wasn't blended the second time. Not good. Because the front of the car isn't all that great looking I am not to...
Based on your last description of the system operation , I have to agree with you. A restriction anywhere in the system would raise your high pressure and lower the low. Is your coolant level where it belongs? I have seen low coolant do strange things to the air conditioning.

compared to R12 80% 134A is used. Depending on temps the low side pressure on 134A is form 34 to 50 lbs 45 usually seems to be about right at 80 deg. High side pressures on 134A are scary high when you have been used to working with the R12.I also pay attention to the amount of condensation...
On my 90 the clutch was only slipping when the car was warmed up. Seldom slipped when it was cold. I chased the hydraulic clutch system for over a yr. What seems to have been happening on mine is that the seal in the flywheel was leaking. The lube in the flywheel must be heavy and only leaked...
That would be about $900 labor, really not to bad. The older flywheels didn't have a seal protector like the later ones did. On mine the seal went out and lube was leaking on the contact surface. Less likely with the later flywheels.

You need a trans jack of some kind , sure you could rent it.The 6 speed is heavy. Everything is very close , just enough room to remove and install. I worked slow and it took me about 16 hrs total. Clutch and flywheel are a bolt in, no real special tools needed. You do need swivels for your 3/8...
If you go with the OEM dual mass flywheel you are looking at $1500 to $3000 , depending on who does it. I paid $1000 for my dual mass flywheel and clutch kit and did the work myself.

I wash my engines at the car wash and never have had any issues. What does it do when you turn on the air? You may have a bad bearing.
There is a special tool to take that apart and I don't think it costs much but I am sure advanced auto or some other parts store has a loaner.
If I remember...
My 90 was always exactly 2 mpg to high. I had some bad OEM injectors so I replaced with the Bosch III from FIC . Now the mpg is nuts on to within a tenth on a fill of gas.
Mileage also went up about 1 to 2 mpg.

You have the 1.6 rockers on the intakes only? If so I would agree that it is the rod length rather than valve timing or you would have exhaust rods bent also.
