I'm sorta gettin a hankerin' to get mine up on stands. Got big plans. Upgraded handling is my thing now. I am really in a quandry about installing a leaf spring front end with all the bells and whistles. I REALLY like the idea of the lighter weight etc. But..... Talking to Guldstrands yesterday...
The body is not as wide ( about 2" missing ) then a regular Corvette Body, so nothing ( hood, surrond, top, etc. ) from the factory can be used.
2" narrower??!! Try finding some glass!!!! Great.
Does anyone know what if any benifit was to the complicated 3 wire sender system? A thought for red rockets conversion might be to use a later Corvette 2 wire sender. Should fit right into the bung.
I used to have a grease gun end ground down to fit. You have to not leave the wheels hanging and rotate till you can insert the end to the fitting. I don't have that problem anymore when I learned that non-greasable ujoints are far stronger because they are not hollow.
Chuck,
I used the original 3/8 supply line and amazingly was able to shove my 5/16 return line down the top of the frame beside the feed. It has resided up there captured for a year now. Worked for me. It would be nicer if the body was off the frame but its not. What kind of F.I. are you...
Thanks John, I was refering to the removal of the crossmember structural wise? It seem to me that the c1- c2 frame trans crossmember looks like it is integral to the engineering of this frames strength. What are the consequenses of removing it?
Frank. [the engine is just the thing as well].
Thanks for the info Wilkinshc;
I definately would like some more pics if poss.
I am aware that the C2-C3 frames are very similar as my '65 has a '74 frame. If JohnZ see's this I would like his opinion of this conversion?
Thanks, Frank.
I love that crossmember.
I would like one just like it. My concern is how much structural integrity does the heavy original cross member provide? Would removing it cause the frame to weaken?
Thanks again Gerry, Looks like a guy has to go the retail kit route. Seems that there is no using trans from wrecks. Good luck getting yours going tomorrow.
I have not been paying too much attetion the this 5spd-6spd stuff. I really love my Muncie/Hurst. Always have. I am kicking and screaming into the realization that I need an overdrive. In my small amount of research I have discovered that the T56 is a double overdrive. I don't need that. The...
Thanks Gerry. I'm sure the drive shaft will have to be shortened. Mount moved. I wonder where the shifter will come up. I heard somewhere that these trans can only be made to work with a hydraulic clutch. Input shaft length. Anyone know?
O.K. Thanks John. Does anyone know what kind of issues can I expect installing a Tremec 6 spd in my '65? I imagine it has the larger 31 spline output, some call it the TH400 yoke. Is the Tremec a Borg Warner?
