    Fair value of C2s?

Hi Folks - I didn't post and run :) Work had me out of the picture for a bit. Thanks for all the replies. I didn't ask the question specific about a car and its price but rather generally which, everyone concurs, doesn't really exist. I've been looking for months and its seemed like prices...

    Fair value of C2s?

Thanks - and more info Thanks everyone - I completely understand what everyone is saying. I didn't know if some appraisal site etc posts something like a kelly blue book (this option etc). Long shot but figured I'd ask. However, I have gotten valuable advice just for posting the question...

    Fair value of C2s?

Hi - as I continue my search for my C2 I see prices vary siginficantly from car to car so there is no magic price number. Are there any resources that someone can recommend that provides average pricing for say NOM C2's. I guess I'm trying to ensure I don't pay too much for a car. The...

    Long distance evaluation

Thanks Barry - I am having trouble finding someone. I did reach out to the NCRS but got a mailbox full. I also don't want to impose on club members since I'm not a member.....yet :) If anyone knows of a commercial service that I can engage or has other advise please let me know! I'll...

    Long distance evaluation

Hi Everyone - I am looking to find my dream C2 vette and I quickly realize that I won't find one locally. Does anyone know of appraisers (hopefully national) that can take a look at a car for me when I find the right car? Currently I am looking at one in the orlando area. I will definately...

Good/bad advice - engine disturbed with chain off

Sweet - thanks. Very helpful. I got her all back together and have a coolant leak around the water pump. I was as careful as can be, new gaskets, all cleaned etc. Not sure what happened but I'll be back under the hood soon. I was careful about turning the crank but did so before reading...

Good/bad advice - engine disturbed with chain off

Wow - had no idea on that one. So, if I understand correctly, if I pull the dist cap off like I have it I will see it on #6. I will then rotate the crank 360 which will put the CAM at 12 oclock and the crank at 12 oclock, then install dist on #1. Then I'll be in phase. Also, it doesn't...

Good/bad advice - engine disturbed with chain off

Just full of questions this week! I have replaced my timing gears with a timing chain. I was told by my brother in law that it doesn't matter if the crank or cam is turned while the chain/gears were off. This is because the cam and nose are indexed with a pin/key. However, when I was...

Cam button - to use or not?

    Stainless exhaust how-to

Cool - I'm thinking about doing this. Do stainless steel exhaust systems sound different then other types? More rumble, less rumble etc?

Cam button - to use or not?

Hi Everyone - as my last post indicated the timing gears had to go. I have installed a cloyes timing chain, double roller. The cam is a crane energizer and when I got the cam I also ordered the locking plate/bolt kit. The locking plate has tabs that are bent to prevent the cam bolts from...

    OK, I made a mistake...gear drive....

Thanks - Cloyes it is! I am going to go with the Billet True Roller set as opposed to the Ture set they sell. 6 buck more - probably won't matter in my application but.... Thanks for the feedback all. I'll also check into the plug as motorman indicated. Figure its apart, might as well do...

    OK, I made a mistake...gear drive....

Last year I decided it would be a good idea to replace my timing change with a Pete Jackson gear drive. Definately, not for me - duh :). I was thinking they would be great - no chaing to stretch etc. Did I mention I was a rookie mechanic? Anyway, what do you guys recommend for a timing...

    Help--Oil pan leaks!

I just took mine off and am getting ready to put it back on. No need to pull engine but I had a heck of a time with the steering linkages - which must be moved out of the way (at least on my 80). Tried to get it off with some hammer hits to the sides (some people have luck with them popping...

Major problems - how do you do a compression test correctly?

Final update - CAM shaft is shot. Knowing what I know now - easy to identify issue. I had a friend come over who knew what and how to set the valve lash. It turns out that one of the exhaust valves on passenger side barely moves. Being a rookie I never looked at that - taking off the...

Major problems - how do you do a compression test correctly?

Thanks Black 81 Vette - I did adjust the floats as its a known issue with a manufacture defect. The conversation with Edelbrock was blame everything else, when I explained all that was done, he suggested like many others, that I put the old carb back on. Unfortunately, it won't fit the new...

    Fuel Pressure test

Thanks guys - Out of desperation I changed out the fuel pump anyway. My backfire through the carb still exists. As you all indicated it would - the needle bounces with the new fuel pump as well.
