Major problems - how do you do a compression test correctly?

Update - still no go! I am going to put on the old carb, however, the bolt pattern is indeed different. Edelbrock sells an adapter plate so I'll see if I can pick that up. I also replaced the fuel pump in case that was bad. Called edelbrock support and they indicated that I should see...

    Fuel Pressure test

Hello - I just placed a test gauge on my fuel line and the needle jidders between 4-8 when idleing. Should the needle be very steady or is this bouncing around expected. You almost can't get a reading as it vibrates so much. I hope the answer is it should be steady as that may solve some...

Major problems - how do you do a compression test correctly?

Stomach bug ripped through the house so I haven't had much engine time....I believe the prob is def in the carb. The Primary Venturi boosters basically drip gas into the carb. When I open the throttle, the air valves open and dumps the pooled up gas into the intake. Anyone seen this or have a...

Major problems - how do you do a compression test correctly?

Update: Checked for leaks with carb cleaner - no acceleration so OK there. Old carb won't fit on the new intake without an adapter plate. The old carb was extremely dirty and the car did not run very well. However, it ran much better then now and the plugs were clean not black like I'm...

Major problems - how do you do a compression test correctly?

Mike - sorry forgot to respond to your timing question - I started at 8 deg BTDC and have adjusted it higher (12-14). Still had backfires at all settings.

Major problems - how do you do a compression test correctly?

Thanks guys - the spark plug change and wires were a result of trying to fix the back fire. So, unless I have two bad sets I am going to rule that out. Firing order checked and rechecked - good thought. I also started it for 10 seconds and felt each exhaust manifold - they all felt about...

Major problems - how do you do a compression test correctly?

Hi - Sorry for what will be a long post but I've really been struggling on getting my '80 running again. I have problems getting it to run after replacing Carb, intake, Distributor, spark plugs and spark plug wires. I have some back firing through the carb at higher RPM (Idles fine) and I've...

    Would you buy a retro???

I'm not a big fan of retro. I say if you want it - get the real deal. I see the new Mustangs and think - cool, but there is something missing. Might be the nostalgia... I know no one spent hours under that hood tweaking it up.

Prob an honest mistake on the posters part - he must of got carried away and add four more zeros on the end of the price then he meant to :) That darn sticking zero key!

Can someone post a picture of their Edelbrock carb setup?

I just mounted my Edelbrock thunder AVS and am not really happy with the look/setup of the cables. Can someone post a picture of theirs? I'm really interested in how the throttle cable, trans kick down cables and how you mounted them. Thanks a bunch!

    Edelbrock AVS Throttle cable connections

Howdy - So I've begun my first "real" upgrade and have replaced my stock carb and intake with the Edelbrock Performer EPS and the Thunder AVS carb. This is quite a project for a rookie like myself. So far, its all coming back together. Here is my current hold up: Throttle cable doesn't fit...

    Edelbrock Gasgacinch equivalent?

Did a nice job of setting it straight down - no shifting or repositioning. I did use Black RTV (Right Stuff) on the end seals. This forum is more than clear about tossing the supplied gaskets. (Even Edelbrocks instruction tell you to toss em). I will leave as is and hope for the best...

    Edelbrock Gasgacinch equivalent?

Thanks Guys - I think I F'd up. I was so excited to get it together I went ahead and used the HPF last night before waiting for a response based on other things I had read. Not the dumbest thing I've done but.... What do ya think - do I have a chance at this not leaking?

    C3 or C4

My decision was based on cost - I wanted a '67 (and still do!) :) However, I def wanted to be able to work on it. So I got me a 1980 C3 (Pre-computer). Although purchased with only 36K and an engine that you could eat off of, I've already begun some modifications. In my mind driving it is...

    Edelbrock Gasgacinch equivalent?

About to install my new Edlebrock intake and Edelbrock indicates you should apply Edelbrock Gasgacinch sealer to both the gasket and head surface. What that heck is Gasfacinch and how do you even say it :) I figure I would attempt to follow the instructions to a T but no one stocks this...

    Intake/carb won't fit under hood?

Glad to hear that someone has been, there done that. Let me know if you get the 3" in there. I doubt I'll beat ya to the attempt!

    Intake/carb won't fit under hood?

Thanks! I searched before posting but didn't see anything. Not knowing what a drop base air clear was I searched on that - sure enough this question has been asked a lot of times and that seems to be the solution. Some are even running the airgap intake manifold. I think I will go that...

    Intake/carb won't fit under hood?

Hello -I bought my first vet last year (1980 L48) with the expectation that I would learn more about cars and how to work on em. My first upgrade was going to be a new carb and intake. Now here is the problem -the Edlebrock airgap intakes indicated they wouldn't fit under a stock vette hood...
