    Help! Rear Tires Wobble??

Since you have the ability to put it in the air. I would check your wheel bearings and rotor runout to see if they are loose or out of true. Wheel bearings in the rear are shimmed to get the clearances very tight. 0.002" - 0.004" total play in the bearings. It's not a job for amatures, as it...

Question: Intake / Vacuum Hose Routing

The fitting is a thermostatic controlled valve/switch. At least that is what it looks like to me. ON SECOND THOUGHT, MAYBE NOT. The hose with the steel line hooked to it is the constant vaccuum source for the transmission.. Make sure the one that is always providing vacuum goes to the...

    700R4 stuck in drive

Can you feel the shifter clicking into the different gears? If so, the cable is connected. In park it doesn't move, but in all other gears it goes forward? If the cable is still hooked up and the lever is moving, then you have a stuck valve in the control body. With the engine off, put it in...

    ENGINE OPTIONS?!?

You stick to your guns, because you are right, and you do your research. The others may have a book, but it's WRONG! Tell them you have an 81 not an 80.

Do you have more than 1 vette?

2 used for the price of one.

    idle screws inop

There is no external adjustment screw on the Q-jets. There is a tang on the float that must be bent to be adjusted with the top plate off the carb. If you get a rebuild kit for it, there will be a setup guage included with instructions on how the float height should be set.

    Question: rear strut rod replacement

Spray it real good with PBblaster and let it sit for a day, then do it again. Hit it with a torch and get it hot, and use an impact driver on it. The combination of all 3 is hard to resist.

    Help! 81 Headlights

If you look at the assembly from under the car, you can see it a lot better. I would guess that the linkage is rusted in place. Some PBBlaster sprayed on the hinge points might loosen them up.

    Question: '81 Tail light retainers

I'm glad you asked about these. I have been trying to find them too, as all of my tail light lenses are flopping around and I'm afraid they will fall off one of these days. P/N 493064 $7.95 / pair I found them at Mid-America too...

    After Installation Problems with Headers?

Most common complaint is the O2 sensors don't get a fast enough feedback and set off DIC codes. Engine temp. won't be affected, other than in the area around the outside of the headers themselves. Ceramic coated headers will aleviate some of the problem. Blackwing or Vararam will probably get...

    valve picture

It's TOO early to flip a head, unless it's Aluminum, and mine aren't.;):boogie Besides that, they are bolted on.

    valve picture

As you view the head from the top. The valve order is: 1 Exhaust 2 Intake 3 intake 4 Exhaust 5 Exhaust 6 Intake 7 Intake 8 Exhaust Small diameter valves are exhaust, larger ones are intake. You can see from the side that the Exhaust ports are on the ends of the heads with two in the center.

console side pieces on a 82

I used 1/32" plywood from a hobby shop. It's the kind they use for model airplanes. Works good. Very flexible, and doesn't let the screw heads pull through like the cardboard did.

why is this part so much $ ?

Even simpler.... Since I have done this twice in the last 10 years, last week being the most recent. Take the glove box liner out--6 screws. Look inside the outboard side of the hole, there's the orange timer module. Unclip the module from the connecter and take it out. Unclip the two halves...

    Changing rocker ratio's

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't touch it. To get an additional 0.002" of lift? Nah, not worth it. There are too many wear factors on the existing valve train components that could come back to bite you halfway through the job. Mostly the pushrods, which are sure to be worn to match the existing...

    Front Bushing

I had my bushings and springs replaced in 2001. Along the way, they found one of the control arms was bent and one ball joint was bad. So they replaced the bad components and installed the new bushings and springs. Total labor hours were 6.6 Hrs. for the whole job. I think you need to find a...

    Muncie Trannie noise?

Sounds like a throwout bearing to me. A good test is to listen for the noise at idle, then depress the clutch slightly so that there is pressure on the bearing but not enough to disengage the clutch. If the noise stops, you have found the problem.

Plastic covers above valve covers over injectors/ whats the purpose?

I call 'em "Squirrel covers". Keeps the critters away from the wire harnesses.:)

The wipers on my "80 just stopped working!

A good Voltmeter is your best friend when it comes to tracking down electrical problems. You can get one pretty cheap at Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, Etc.. Once you have one, you can check to see where you have power to the various switches and components. Remember to always use the frame as your...
