    Leave seams alone?

Actually, visible seams were not the "normal" factory look. The seams were undetectable when the cars were new. With age, the bonding compound and filler used over the seam shrinks and they begin to become visible. I filled mine with one course of matte, sanded for contour, then primed...

    1970 Production Paint

FWIW: if you breeze through the Corvette Black Book, the available figures show red, white, and a blue were consistently the best sellers in each model year. :)

    1981 Dark Bronze - 1 of 6 w/ 4 Speed

"Rare" does not necessarily equate to desirability or collectabilty. A potential future buyer for your car might want it only for the 4 speed and not for the color. The next potential buyer might want it for the color and not want a 4 speed. Average Jane/Joe might want it for no reason other...

    1981 Dark Bronze - 1 of 6 w/ 4 Speed

Corvette Myth. GM did not keep color/options combination figures so there is no way to determine how many bronze cars had four speed transmissions. For 81, the buyer could choose the 4 speed or automatic as the base transmission at no charge for either. Corvette Bronze was available only at...

    Help! C3 build sheets

Yep. Yep. Copies of build sheets have been found tucked in the wiring behind the speedo/tach; tucked behind the center cluster; behind either kick panel; tucked in the springs under a seat; and under the carpet in the rear storage area. These alternate locations are hit or miss and chances...

    Good Jacking Points

Yep. And on the jacking instructions on the underside of the rear compartment door. :thumb

    Question: Electric Radiator fans

I'm confused. All 81s had an electric auxiliary fan from the factory. It used a temperature sensor on the rear of the passenger's head and required no thermostat. :thumb

    Question: Water pump replacement

Consider paying someone to do it. The job is not beyond regular mechanical skills - no rocket science involved - but it's a piddly affair. One of those chores sometimes better left to the pros. :thumb

    Site Update: 1965 - 1982 Corvette: How-To: Bleeding Brakes

FWIW: when bleeding rear calipers, the inner half must be bled first, then the outer. :thumb

Question: 1968 corvette vin <5000 seat belt warning?

The 68 owner's manual has reference pics of interior features and is good to have. If memory serves, there were two editions of the manual during the model year. This is a good photo reference: :thumb

Question: 1968 corvette vin <5000 seat belt warning?

The NCRS Judging Guide says some 68s up to about #12,800 might have a Low Fuel tell tale below the Door Ajar or a blank. By #13,723, Wiper O'ride appears in the lower square and continues through the end of the model year. :thumb

Question: 1968 corvette vin <5000 seat belt warning?

All 68s had the seat belt warning tell tale, the push button, and the buzzer. Tale tells on the right side of the cluster could vary but eventually standardized to Door Ajar and Wiper Over Ride. The NCRS Judging Guide gives a break down on approximate S/Ns for these changes. I can check the...

    Build Numbers

Yes and No. You may be able to determine how many 70s were painted Cortez Silver code 986, but there is not likely to be any confirmation of the break down between coupes and convertibles. There were 1287 LT-1s. GM did not keep records of how many LT-1s may have been silver or how many were...

    Help! Starving for Gas

Check to see if fuel is reaching the carburetor from the fuel pump. And, of course, the otherwise obvious question is whether there is fuel in the tank. :thumb

    Help! new project

FWIW, your seats and door panels are from an 82 Collector Edition. Good luck with the project. You may want to consider going here on the forum http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/infosearch/index.php?cmd=area and see if you can obtain a copy of the original dealer invoice for you 79. The...

    Help! C3 build sheets

Any chance of contacting the previous owner to determine whether he/she might have original factory documentation for the car? I agree no PB or PS might be out of the ordinary, but both were optional. The original owner may not have wanted either. He/she obviously want air and power windows...

    Question: Chrome header molding

If I recall, the AIM page showing the trim installation lists the sealant, but only by GM part number. You could look up the part number in the AIM guide but it is not likely to give you a brand name. Good quality silicon sealant will work since the intent is to keep rain water from seeping...
