Yes. Very involved. Here's what you're looking for:
Skip it for the time being. This is more work than you want to do. If there are no title issues with the car, you honestly do not need to take the body off the frame just to find the frame stamp.

Characters transposed, not inverted. VIN tags were stamped by a human being, so a mistake could have been possible. That said, it would have been difficult for an incorrectly stamped VIN tag to have gotten by the various inspectors at St. Louis. All 69s have the 7 following the S. Post a pic of...
FWIW: rally wheels were standard throughout C3 production. After they became available, aluminum wheels were optional and cost you extra.

Does the paint look like it's fortyfive years old? Is there any reason not to believe the seller? Does the color match the code on the trim tag?

For 77, high beam is on a lever on the steering column. There is no floor switch as in earlier years. Do you have a 77 owner's manual? If not, order a reprint.
Congrats on the 77.

Lauderdale: contact the NCM and see if you can obtain a copy of the build schedule for your car. The...
Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM)? The AIM shows the factory routing of the wiring harnesses, the vacuum hoses, and everything else installed on your car by assembly line workers.
The forward lamp harness, which includes the headlights and the fiber optics, routes down the...
