    Help! Clean shifter

Stock shifters are plated. If yours is rusting, the plating if beginning to go. Metal polish would probably get rid of the rust without harming the remaining plating, but the problem is likely to recur. Replacement shifters are available through the aftermarket providers. :thumb

    Question: body removal

Yes. Very involved. Here's what you're looking for: Skip it for the time being. This is more work than you want to do. If there are no title issues with the car, you honestly do not need to take the body off the frame just to find the frame stamp. :thumb

    Question: production numbers on c3

Characters transposed, not inverted. VIN tags were stamped by a human being, so a mistake could have been possible. That said, it would have been difficult for an incorrectly stamped VIN tag to have gotten by the various inspectors at St. Louis. All 69s have the 7 following the S. Post a pic of...

    1978 wheels

FWIW: rally wheels were standard throughout C3 production. After they became available, aluminum wheels were optional and cost you extra. Go here: Corvette Action Center | Tech Center | Owner Information Center | Build Sheets | Documentation and see if you can obtain a copy of the dealer...

    Detecting a respray?

Does the paint look like it's fortyfive years old? Is there any reason not to believe the seller? Does the color match the code on the trim tag? I agree with Dad. If a potential repaint was properly done, it could be very difficult to detect. :thumb

Question: Black mounts on deck lid of my 1982

Yep. The next question, is the V54 with your car? All the black plastic goodies go into a vinyl travel bag which hangs from two clips, passenger's side, in the rear storage area. Complete V54s can be difficult to find if you need one, and expensive. :thumb

Question: Black mounts on deck lid of my 1982

Deck mounts for the optional V54 roof panel carrier. Your car left the factory with the V54. My 80 L-82 has the V54. :thumb

I am looking for the scoring sheets for 1978 Corvettes

For judging by the NCRS, order the NCRS Judging Guide for the 78s. National Corvette Restorers Society Long story short, essentially the same items judged for the 73-77s are also judged on the 78-82 cars. For Bloomington, go here: http://www.bloomingtongold.com/ :thumb

    Question: More Horsepower 1981

Tune what you have. As far as spending goes, a stock tune up is cheap. If you want modifications beyond stock, you're going to have to spend some money. :thumb

    1977 Stingray

For 77, high beam is on a lever on the steering column. There is no floor switch as in earlier years. Do you have a 77 owner's manual? If not, order a reprint. Congrats on the 77. :thumb

    First silver/charcoal

Close. Bowling Green trim tags only list the month and week of the month the car was assembled. 81 St. Louis cars continued to use the old style trim tag which listed a time/build date code. Lauderdale: contact the NCM and see if you can obtain a copy of the build schedule for your car. The...
