Thanks Brain. I made a rotor balancer and it is consistent and shows even the slightest out of balance.
When I get to that point I will do a post on it and how I do my balancing.
I started with a 2 1/8th inch piece of 6061 T6 10 inch diameter aluminum weighing 16 1/2
pounds and costing about $80.
I put it on a big industrial lathe and take 1/2 inch per diameter cuts and cut it down
to close
to final dimensions leaveing a slight cleanup cut for home to fine tune the...
Get what stuff. Mine are the stock seats for the car. I just took the backs apart and cut the slots. Other then the 5 points I didn't buy anything. I do have the back of the seats sewn with leather to prevent future ripping.
I don't know how you will do your seats, this is just one method I...
The metal insert is made from some soft material, i just mill the slot out, smooth the edges very carefully, the frame slot is also polished and larger then the insert slot.
The finished seat you see with that seat belt has been used for 4 or 5 years, I always had a 5 point on the drivers...
With the roll cage I wanted 5 points for both the driver and the passenger.
This is how I did mine.
My 75 had metal inserts in the seat at the shoulder height. They look like all they need is cutting the slot from the factory for shoulder seat belts. I removed these inserts and milled a 3 inch...
I don't race anything. I do drive very fast on back roads but drive smoothly. I do not panic stop from those high speeds. I have tried 3 repeated panic stops from 100 mph just to test pads for fade but other then that I am very easy on my brakes.
I have too much time and money invested in the...
Those old rotors don't have that much. A rotory table on the mill probably does it in about an hour, then there is drilling the hat, deburring etc. It all adds up.
MY new rotors took me 4 1/2 hours to do one.
The arguement goes round and round on cracking rotors if you drill them.
These are shots, not cleaned up , a typical area on my 10 plus year old drilled rotors.
I have run metalic pads with them but mostly stick to organic pads.
Each row of holes runs in the same groove so cracking is not...
Parking brakes are not my thing. I plan on just putting another parking caliper on the rear disc one of these days.
A quick improvement for your brakes is remove the proportioning valve.
I could have easily done it on a NC machine at work but then I wouldn't have done it. I did it the hard way at home by manually turning to each location but I did it myself and in my own shop.
At work I could have put it in any one of the NC mills , gone for break and come back to a finished...
I have 2 methods of drilling rotors. The easiest for me is a rotory table that has degrees marked on it, the rotor is clamped on this table, you eyeball where you want the first hole to be, drill it and then rotote the table a certain number of degrees and drill again. If you choose a number...
I never thought about it. If you use the same size and want the hole a little bigger just wiggle it side to side, It is very controlable, It melts in nicely, doesn't catch fire and gives you a second or two to move the hole slightly or make it a bit bigger by rocking the bolt.
The bolts are...
Remember I have a bigblock, a 100 plus pound blower but lots and lots of lightweight stuff also.
It weights with a full tank of gas but without me 3500 pounds almost exactly
If you saw that amount of chips I had to clean up you wouldn't be. I had alot to clean up. That was the easy part. On another forum a guy figured that 240 holes would add up to about .8 pounds, Alot of work for little gain.
I will keep cutting away and see where I end up.
Thanks
Norval
I went into work this moring with a 50 pound packet under my arm, well it was breaking my arms actually. I left tonight with slightly under 32 pounds.
I rough machined the rotors leaving only a slight cleanup cut on them.
The back side is machined to the stock 2 inch wide braking surface, I...
I actually rough machined all dimensions this morning and lost 8 pounds per rotor in the process.
I will make custom 10 inch hats for them next week.
I believe in the stock calipers. Mine are stainless sleeved and do not leak and are easy to bleed without a proportioning valve.
They have 4...
My new 14 inch rotors arrive today. I was shocked when I saw the size of them. They also weigh a ton. These are the basic rough casting so alot of machining/lightening will be done to them
They are an honest 14 inches by about 1.400 thick. I will take nothing off the diameter and cut the...
I believe in electric pumps but not their reliability. I always run 2 with seperate switches and like a plane check each pump by itself when running.
Anyway electric pumps can be noisy so I got these dampeners. They are used but can be bought from any bolt supply house. They have a variety of...
Guys I am into horses in a big way and a STUDS life is hell. You only get laid a couple of times a year, you are always by yourself, always and you pace the fence looking at the ladies, waiting, always waiting.
As for the sex it lasts all of 30 seconds if you lucky and your put back in the field...
