    1981 differential

1980 to 1982 differentials are the same. They can be identified by the fact that they are an aluminum case verses a cast case on the '79 and earlier.

    Horsepower Hunt

You are loosing some power somewhere. Your cam should be good until 5500 RPM or so. Back up a bit on this thread and look at Redmist's reply about carburation. He may be correct if you are going to cure your problem completely. There are some adjustments that can be done before you toss it...

    78 L48 Slight hesitation

All of the above things are good to check. If the hesitation is only slight, just as you touch the throttle you may also want to check the idle mixture screws. The basic setting for a Quadrajet is 4 full turns out. I find that I get a slight hesitation at that setting. My car seems to like...

    Horsepower Hunt

Your cam should be a great street cam. You did install new valve springs that match the cam didn't you? Stock springs go in to coil bind at about .460 lift. 98 octane gas is only a fond memory here. To set the full advance timing you need to have an adjustable timing light or mark the...

    Horsepower Hunt

You can get an adjustable vacuum advance unit from Crane for the dist. for under 25.00 here in the U.S. Your cam part number does not relate to any one avaiable here. Do you have the specs. on it? If it is a radical cam you may want to not run any vacuum advance anyway. The mechanical advance...

    fiberglass lift off hoods

If you are going to be bonding things anyway, why not just get a L88 scoop and bond it to your hood. They are available from Speedway motors for 70.00 or so. If you want the underside panel the only one that I have found is from Eckler's. www.speedwaymotors.com www.ecklers.com

    1969 model run

Production of the 1970 model began in Jan. of 1970. There would have to be some time allowed to change tooling and train people on those changes.

Rear end has mind of its own

Had the same problem with my '79. Unlike you though, I fixed mine before I did the engine work. What I did was rebuild the trailing arms, rear wheel bearings and change the oil in the differantial. I found one rear wheel bearing really bad, I suspect that was the cause of my torque steer. The...

    Copper Gasket

I have heard that Hooker will sell the hardware kit for something in the range of 25.00. They do not list the hardware seperatly, you have to e-mail them. I went to the hardware store and got the stuff I needed before I found out about the kits being available. T-bolts are what you need. My...

    Copper Gasket

I used Earl's Pressure seals on my Hookers with no leaks. They are a thick composition seal with an aluminum frame. Hooker headers are designed to work with thick gaskets. A thin gasket will not allow the header to seal at the port. Whatever you use, remember to check the torque on the bolts...

Help!! Hood Latch Stuck on my '78

Look in the wiper tray area. You will see a rubber plug near the latch. Remove the plug and put a screwdriver through the hole and press down to trip the latch. Like the dealer said, Good luck. Except I mean it!

    Hooker side exhaust

That is the size of the muffler inlet and outlet on the reverse flow mufflers. The glasspack mufflers are slightly larger, but still under 2 inches. Maybe we should just leave the mufflers out and run open sidepipes!:L

    Hooker side exhaust

I've got Hooker sidepipes and would not buy them again. My problem stems from The mufflers being too restrictive. My mufflers are the reverse flow type and they have a 1 1/2 inch inlet and outlet! The fiberglass packed mufflers have a slightly larger inlet and outlet but it's still under 2...

    73 Horse power

Headers and a true dual exhaust would be a good upgrade for your current set up. A lot of people have reported good results on installation and performance using the DynoMax ceramic coated headers. Camshaft selection can't be done without knowing your transmission, rear gear ratio, usage and...

    Question About Lower Radiator Hose

And you thought that they were kidding about the body being built around the chassis? It must have been a simple job before they wraped the body around the engine compartment. Maybe we could get the design engineers to drop by the house and take care of some of the minor problems with our cars...

HELP! want to put zr1 wheels on 1981 corvette

Most people see spacers as a bad idea. You can get spacers from Ecklers. www.ecklers.com There are aftermarket wheels avaliable that have the correct backspacing for our cars without spacers and look like ZR1 wheels. Take a look at the #290 Vortec Z wheel at Performance Wheel Outlet. They...

Emissions requirements for a '79 in TX

Unemployment doesn't sound too bad compared to what I will have to do to my Corvette.

Emissions requirements for a '79 in TX

The terms "blackmail" and "extortion" do not seem to apply when it's our government doing them. If you or I said "Give me a 28 percent cut of everything you make" that's extortion. If the government says the same thing we're supposed to be happy that they are taking care of us. Thanks for the...
