If it was easy, everybody would have one!
I just finished removing my timing chain to verify that I had installed the chain and gears correctly (I had).
There is no "easy" way to do this. It will help to remove the radiator support bolts. 6 bolts accessed from the wheel wells. Then you can push the whole assembly forward enough to clear the suspension. Be happy that you don't have A/C.
I have dual Flex-a-lites on my car. They seem to work OK for me. I've seen Corvettes with a lot smaller fan that the owners say works fine.
I wish that I had found out about Spal fans before I bought mine since I don't think that I have much, if any, reserve capicity for when the A/C is on.
Well we can always start a thread about high flow water pumps.
My only issue with high flow pumps has to do with the bypass hole. The bypass hole is the third hole in the right side of the block. This hole goes through the pump and into the inlet area of the pump. This allows water to bypass...
The UPS guy may be a pal now, but wait until the heads come, if their iron heads. My Ups guy just gives me dirty looks now, after the iron heads and Hooker headers with side pipes.
Maybe he'll feel better when he hears it run.
I've spent so much time fooling with my mechanical advance that my distributor cap jumps off automaticly when I open the hood. After all of this I got the advance to let me get 8 derees of initial timing and 36 degrees of mechanical advance timing (want to buy some custom ground weights?)...
Jack - My Accel is a standard replacement HEI distributor model, about 140.00 from the mail order places. It wasn't my first choice but the price was right, my buddy has had it sitting in his garage, brand new, for 10 years. I cleared some junk out of my garage er... traded him some stuff for...
Yes I have done all of my own work minus the head machining for screw in studs and large valves, and I thought about doing that!

I'm about (look around to make sure the wife isn't watching me type this) 1,200 into a top end rebuild on my '79 L48. I did it this way because I have a numbers matching engine. Had it not been I would have grabbed a crate motor and bought warrentied horsepower. If I were to start over again...
The bypass hole functions before the thermostat opens and has no further use after the thermostat has opened. To avoid cycling hot water back through the motor without going through the radiator the hole is pluged on some high performance pumps. On these pumps you need to drill bleed holes in...
Good luck with it. I'm sure that any questions that you have can be answered here on the forum.
I bought my '79 last Dec. and have put 2500 miles and large amounts of knuckle skin in it since. Did the rear suspension, doing the engine now, front suspension for a winter project.
Nope!
But I know that if I check the tech center block at the top of this page and scroll down I'll find the information.

You'll never guess who has been looking at front spoilers.
If you've got 1 vacuum line going in from the manifold and 2 going out, 1 to the dash and 1 to the headlights then it's the one-way check valve. Keeps pressure in the headlight system when the engine is shut off I think.
