Petroleum/oil base products can cause a chemical reaction with some plastics and they tend to crack apart. If you must use something use dielectric paste used on coils, spark plug boots.

    Poly Engine Mounts

Sorry I fully disagree with most of the posting from Hib Halverson. I have worked in a testing lab & building test machines. Urethane bushing help eliminate vibration and less movement giving more faster action to some parts. It depends on the application. I have been using urethane products...

    Poly Engine Mounts

Try putting a floor jack under the Trans/motor and take some weight pressure off and you should be able to move it a little easier. You will be very happy with the new mounts, the rear differential mounts are VERY importain if your making any type of power to keep the rearend shock away from the...

    Poly Engine Mounts

I agree on the safety lock type. That's why the ones from VP&B are a higher price, their that type. On 80-82 its best to use the poly mounts on the rear end on the front differential mounting bushing, and the front sway bar. Poly mounts make all the difference to the performance of the car, any...

    '80 Sqeaking interior

I put a small piece of rubber between the two works great. You can use a rubber gasket materials from any auto store. My main one was the A pillar garnish and the Instrument Panel, that one was a hard one to find. The same sound on both side's at once. Stay away from any silicone, it's banned...

    Poly Engine Mounts

Yes they are good. they take away more vidration, don's rot like the older ones. You can get them from any catalog auto parts Jegs, Summitt and many more. I bought mine from VP&B along with the chassis system. Try a search on this site. While your at it , I would recommending replacing the...

    Rear options?

Your in great shape. Do you have the poly trans mount and especially the front differential mounting bushing. I had to go to solid motor mounts, the safty engine mount's would break at the ploy, bend the lock tabs apart. Poly mount's should be used anyplace to take the extra shock / torque of...

    81 and 82 rear fiberspring

If you look at the pictures on his post its a fiberglass and has NO rubber pieces as in the pic, it looks like someone put some astro turf between the mounting points. Most aftermarket springs don't have them because you can adjust the ride height without them. Its just a centering block, and on...

    rearend gears

80-82 had different external housings (spring mounted different) and a Dana gear set, the front has the mounting tab built in 1unit. They are not the same. The size is the same for build of the car.

    Rear options?

In 80 they lightened the Vettes and put in smaller U-joints on the automatics. The rear end is a Dana 44. My 350 started to give me trouble with a intake, carb, & headers. I had to cut and weld on spindles for a 1350 U-joint. IM running a 427 small block built and runs 10.80's. I haven't had...

    81 and 82 rear fiberspring

There are no rubber strips on the spring. On the spring itself where it mounts on top there should be a small block on top, just long enough to fit the mating part. It looks like it came off and someone put rubber on both sides. It was probbly removed to lower the car. There should be no rubber...

    Will it run good?

A crate motor 350/ 375 hp for less than $2000. , would fit what you want to do, plus its a good starting point. Im running a 427 small block, but it took me a few years to get what I have now, runs in the 10:80s. Get a motor that you can build in the future, a good 400 bored to 406 with stock...

    Will it run good?

    intake

Yes, it can be done with the MSD unit. I prefer the Weigan Stealth intake with a Holly 3310 750 with vacuum secondaries, and Mallory distributor, its just a matter of choice and what works for you. I put the same setup on my brothers 81.

Help! Annoying Sound from Under Car

If it is the U-joints replace all of them at the same time. It seems if one goes, the others follow very soon.

    Engine Identification

The 305 was sold in Calif. only, if you have an automatic trans watch the U-joints they cant take to much power over 300 HP. I had to replace mine with 1350 U-joints, same as a stick. The rear end is a Dana 44, and not the best posi unit for extra HP either. I redone all of my drivetrain to take...

76 Tire size and dunlop vs BFG

BFG is my tire of choice, I have tried the other brand tire's and picked out BFG 255/50/15 in the front and 295/50/15 in the rear. I took off the emergency brake bracket's and in the way. I just put some offset trailing arms with a VB&P performance plus chassis setup, what a differetn ride, I...

    1.6 roller tip rockers???

You will get more out of a set of good true roller rockers than the 1.6 ones. Scorpian makes a great set with oil gallie's to the tips, I use these on my 427 small block.

    Control Arm bracket weld broke!!!

Also make sure the engine and frame is jacked up to keep it aligned. Check around at a good speed shop or race track.
