Try unpluging the electric converter lock-up on the front of dash. Maybe the converter is locking up before it should.

Yes there are fillers available, any catalog has them. Eklers, Mid-America, Corvette Centeral are a few of them. When I built my car I filled mine in with fiberglass.

You will also need a oil pan gasket set, it needs to be droped for the timing cover, crank seal, good metalic exhaust gaskets.
