    Gel-Kote

For those that use Gel-Kote (coat) (John McGraw) prior to painting what type of body prep and sanding steps are required or preferred? Do you apply extra coats on the repaired areas? I called Evercoat and they have a single process Gel-Kote that does not require the PVA and this is the product...

Hi! Barry Penetrating oil, heat, penetrating oil, heat, penetrating oil and heat (from the soldering iron) and patience. Patience is probably the most important part of the problem.

    Pinion seal ??

I had a tool made that would allow me to secure the yoke on the differential. Then using a dial type torque wrench we determined the break loose torque of the nut. We torque the nut to the break loose specs after replacing the seal; worked fine.

    New ZO6

He was suppose to pay sticker, but when he went to pick it up the dealer charge him $7000.00 over sticker. He was a little upset about, but he had already sold his 2001 Z06 prior to placing the order. He showed me the order sheet and there was a little not about market price. I am not in to the...

    New ZO6

I seen my first Z06 up close and personal this morning. My good friend and cruising buddy just got it home Saturday, zero miles. What a Corvette!! Black on black with red stitching on the seat covers. My Corvettes will never keep up with this. Ray

    Gel-Kote by Evercoat

65-to-00 The red was the original red oxide primer. That would have been covered with a gray primer. Chemical stripper will not remove the red oxide with out a lot of labor. I wet sanded the red oxide off rather than using the strip. I had a similar problem with the paint on my Glen Green 65...

    Gel-Kote by Evercoat

Hi! John Mc Thanks for your response! I knew you would provide great information. Can I trouble you for additional information? Do you apply the gel-coat to the repair areas in multiple applications. What type of spray gun, tip and air-cap do you use? How do you remove the PVA (?) coat used...

    Gel-Kote by Evercoat

Hi! Barry & GM-Junk Thanks for the responses. Barry; one front and one rear fender wheel wells were damaged. The person that had previous repaired it used gel-coat in this area when they did the repair. The repair was was undetectable as far as scratches and telegraphing. The body line and and...

    Gel-Kote by Evercoat

Hi! Barry I have a problem! I am trying to learn as much as possible. I have used only PPG products on the 61 & 65 and have purchased all the finishing products for the 63. I used PPG MX241 OMNI-LV Polyester/Filler on the past two restorations and have a gallon in my paint cabinet at this...

    Gel-Kote by Evercoat

Brian & Gary Thanks for the compliments on the 63 body work, but most the credit must go to GM. This is the cleanest body that I have worked on yet. On the past body restorations I have had some telegraphing of sand marks or shrinkage of repairs. I contacted PPG and they stated, "All...

    Gel-Kote by Evercoat

I have the body work almost complete on the 63 SWC project. I have a few more panels to re-work and clean up the door gaps and I should be ready for PPG K-36 high build primer. Has any one ever used Gel-Kote by Evercoat as a barrier on repairs and for a foundation for the paint process...

60 - C1 what to do about broken bumper bolts???

Hi! I would soak them with a good penetrating oil and let them soak. Give them a good wack with a hammer of air chisel and then fasten on with a good set of vise grips. You may be able to work them out, I did. Ray

C1 60 getting the tail pipe off the exhaust pipe so the body can be lifted...HELP

Hi! If you are not worrying about saving the pipe, you can use an air chisel. There is one chisel attachment that is designed for cutting metal. I use it on mine, but I planned on installing the correct type exhaust. I also believe that they make a spreader type device that clamps to each pipe...

    Body Lift for a 60 C1

I used a two post four arm lift to remove the body on my 61 and it worked like a charm. I left the door and hardware on to provide extra support and made up some 4 X4" timbers that fit next to the rocker area and distributed the load across all the fiberglass floor pan. If you have not built...

    planning ahead for motor reassembly

Hi! Barry I would be careful using too much silicone sealant for the front and rear intake gasket. I have used the rubber gasket and a silicone/aluminum sealant recommended and provided by my engine machinist. I have read post where too much sealant has broken off and worked its way into the...
