Years ago that car was for sale at Bloomington! I remember being impressed with construction of tt system. I'm thinking at that time price was in 60's or 70's which was a lot of $$$$$ for a ZR-1 at that time, but not compared to construction cost. At that time ZR'1 were not an in thing with me...
Actually that was a prancing horse car trend long before Viper or Corvette. Don't have any digital pics to show but if memory is correct was used 70's race model?? Red - yellow wheels didn't seem as radical in that context.
Don't know if red R/T car and the red 95 C-8 that was local here are same car or not I have all info on car. It was a Berger car that received motor, areo body, brakes and callaway interior when new. I might be able to get doc's for future owner? I know it has left area, don't know where it is...
:D I've always felt that I have been blessed with many opportunities in this great country! Will never have 5,000 cars but sure have had some great ones that I don't see on that list!!! I really believe a C-16 would add much to his car enjoyment! :upthumbs
I read most of these reports including Keith Martins! It has become real hard to know what sells since the B-J no reserve thing and the regular amount of specialty dealers moving inventory! My personal experience is that buying at one of these auctions is not a fun way to buy a collector car...
Jon: Thanks for sharing this history with us! It is so neat to see what it took to build one of the Speedsters! It was great to meet you and see the car @ BG. Sometimes I forget that the owners of these super Callaways are just regular car lovers like the rest of us!! :upthumbs
I don't remember magazine article but it seems to me that shortly after setting the record Reeves was quoted as saying they would build the car for a $1,000 per MPH which would work out to a little over $250,000 for a copy of Sledgehammer that was probably a little rich for most in 1989 ;)...
Big John: I was thinking the same thing. If I remember right Sledgehammer ran the lowest HP of the motors they built for testing!! Besides Colorado is closer to those open road courses!! It's still my favorite car!!! :upthumbs
:rotfl I agree that is an old catalog!! I don't have catalog but do have that page in my Callaway stuff!! That was always my favorite C-4 Rim! I remember when the owner of Corvette Fever put a set on his new 89 with lingenfelter motor! Put 17X11 on rear, was a red convertible! That was...
That is a pretty good description of difference between Callaway and Challenge dymags. I looked at one set of Challenge rims but were pretty rough and not cheap. Still kicking myself for one Callaway Dymag I didn't buy at Bloomington Gold several years ago. ;shrug Didn't know that someday they...
Last time I saw this was at Bloomington Gold auction 2004? I don't remember but think it sold for around $4,000 Neat item but would take extra garage space I didn't have. Can see why some of the big collectors would like!
Looks like a super clean car!! Congrats on joining the Callaway fan club. There are many knowledgable people here ! I sent you a PM with a few questions on your 89 as I love 89's and really look for no option cars like yours :w Ike
Was @ Barrett-Jackson auction 2004 when this car was sold! It was one of the few times in my life when I would have liked to be rich!! This car is awesome and reading the project book that was with car gave real insight into what goes into a car like this :cool
