You can buy new anti rattle cushions from Ecklers or Corvette Central for about 20$. Easy to install and they actually work. Put them in the 82 a couple of years ago and haven't heard a rattle since. Dave

Strip them down with the Aircraft Stripper, polish with a good brand of alum. polish,(Mothers, Flitz etc.)then finish them up with Never Dull. I too find that the 40's are noisy on acceleration. Cruising is not bad at all but, when you romp on it people sure know you're there. It's all in what you like. If you want to be a kid again than go for it. If you don't like the noise, than keep it stock. Or do what I did and set it up with...

Put new gaskets on my 82 a year ago. Couple of points of interest: Don't do in on a real hot day.(if you do make sure you're in the shade.) Be fast. The contact cement takes hold and you can't move them once it's stuck. Have a friend help hold the gaskets. Work your way around t-top in one...

Try disconecting the neg. cable on the battery to re set the ecm. Then check your codes again. I find that my 82 shoots a code then when I re set I'm ok for a couple of months. (got to love the older ecm's). Just my .02cents. Dave

You can easily remove the 5 guage/radio cluster. Just remove the screws on the top and both sides. Place them somewhere so that you'll put them back in the same patern. ie. some are shorter than others. Just take your time and don't force anything. There is really nothing to screw up. I replaced my old worn T/A's with another set of new T/A's a couple of years ago and would do so again in a heartbeat. They are great. Big improvement over the Dunlops that my buddy has on his 80. Dave
