    How to find previous owner

The Ohio BMV report came back in the mail today. Sadly it contained little more than the info they carry online, though it did show the state of the prior title. As fate would have it, my 75 was titled in North Carolina before Ohio. What is becoming clear is that a federal law was put into...

C3 Door locks... I have no key!

I am not sure I would assume the 1974 had the same key for the door and ignition like the 71. I would ask someone with an original 74 if the door and ignition key are the same for their car. This would get you out of the ignition change. Or you could decide you don't care if the door and...

I am trying not to cry :-(

If you do not like the silver my recommendation is to get all parts you want in the color of your choice. A prior owner of my 75 must have felt the same way about silver, and used vinyl paint, dye, or something to paint many of the interior pieces black. Now every time a panel gets rubbed the...

    Hideous... Simply Hideous...

If you wait long enough it will come back in style! I'm thinking someone with a large collection of Corvettes would want this as an example of the trendy customs of that period - depending on how nice it is in real life. That is really old paint after all.

C3 Door locks... I have no key!

If you have the original knock-outs from the original key (not likely since you don't even have the key), then a Chevy dealer can make the correct keys for you. Other than that I think you are better off replacing the key barrels.

    Hideous... Simply Hideous...

A different kind of survivor! I am amazed he has kept it like that for so long.

    Proportioning valve

Update: Decided to just bleed the brakes. First a gravity bleed then assistance from someone pumping the brakes and holding down the pedal while I opened the bleeders one at a time. Pedal was nice and solid after that. After test drives found the master cylinder was leaking at the...

    Getting a L-82 into the 13's?

Everything I have read about the '75 indicates the automatic L48 had a 400 tranny. Mine does. I can't speak for the later years.

Eddelbrock Performer RPM - Advise & Comments?

Ahh! Assuming this is a 350 or larger, a 600 CFM is too small for that combination IMO. If you have problems with the 750 it is because the accelerator pump circuit needs adjusted. I don't know how that is done on a Edelbrock carb. I know it is easy on the 750 mechanical secondary Holley I...

First day back on the road. Not fun! :(

I wonder if something between your foot and the master cylinder did not get stuck - basically holding the brakes on. When the parts cooled a little it released. Was it all four corners hot? If just the rear maybe something was forcing the ebrake to engage (exhaust pushing up on the cable maybe).

    How Low Can You Go

Is there any interchangability between the 81 and the 75 and older regarding the tranmission crossmember? My 75 has openings in the crossmember on both sides and it looks like 3" might fit through (it would be tight). I am new to Corvettes and this is the first car I have ever seen where the...

    How to find previous owner

In Ohio the BMV has a website and it will show all the title transfers for the VIN since 1993. If the owner was a business it will show the names, otherwise "private individual" is all you get. Maybe those states have a similar website and you can save the wait. I can also fill out paper...

    carb question

This is a standard bore carb, and will not work with the stock intake unless you use an adapter plate. I checked the Edelbrock web site and Summit Racing web site to confirm this. It it a universal carb so you would have to work out the linkage too (which is easier with the Vette since no tranny...

    How Low Can You Go

I have not seen dropped spindles so I can't help you with that. Have you considered the possible bad effects of lowering the car? How much ground clearance do you have? Do you mind cleaning roadkill off the bottom of your car? At the height of my car I think I could clear a dead groundhog...

    Identification questions

original silver paint found Update: I finally found some silver paint on the car last night. The driver side door panel was not installed properly so I removed it. The inside of the door under the panel was clearly painted silver. I am guessing whenever I remove the interior parts I will...

    Getting a L-82 into the 13's?

I have a 350 Chevy with a stock rebuild bottom end (oil pump may be one step above stock), casting 3970010, with 882 heads in my 76 Trans Am. (These are the same castings as my L48.) It is a street car with 700R4 automatic and 4.56 gears. It runs 12.60's with open exhaust. The heads have the...

    Vapor Lock?

You will need to tell us your cam specs - lift and duration at .050 inch before that question can be answered. IMO 10 is a little low for a mild cam.

    Vapor Lock?

Other possibilities: Too much fuel pressure - a new fuel pump putting out a pound or two more pressure than your needle can hold. Slowly overpowers and could cause the surging you describe. Not enough fuel pressure - old fuel pump is a little low on pressure and this is allowing gas to boil...

    Clutch Fan Problems?

I do not disagree with most of these suggestions. However I want to add a vote for the radiator. There comes a time when no amount of flushing can fix that old radiator. It may not be leaking but it may not be cooling efficiently either. More than once I have been burned by this. The first...

    Brake Bleeding

Now everyone is assuming the problem is with bleeding. Are you sure you have the right master cylinder? Assuming you have power brakes, it is certainly possible that the manual brake master cylinder was given to you by mistake (or vice versa) - is it not?
