    Tansmission tunnel insulation

Ok the votes are in Thanks for the input. Yes my 74 BB had one or what is left of one. Just a scrap or two that moves around as I drive. I like the collar idea. The Munci M21 does not put out that much heat it is almost all from the engine and exhaust. If I make a collar type device (I will...

    Tansmission tunnel insulation

Is it possible to install the transmission tunnel insulation with out removing the transmission or engine? It looks like you could cut a slot on the lest side up to the shifter hole and then slide it around. Has anyone ever tried this? It is p/n 633565 in the attached picture.

Front Suspension bushings & ball joints

I did the exact set of stuff you have pictured last winter. I was a first timer with average skills. Take apart I would say allow 1 day each side. Special caution on the spring. I used the floor jack to let it down method with a chain wrapped around for saftey. Asembly is is little less...

    Adding Power Brake Capability

I looked at this conversion very closely for my 74. The master cylindar has a different bore size. The booster needed a couple of additional mounting holes. The brake lines are a different shape. Same size just connect more forward and the ones from the manual don't reach. Lastly the hard...

    MSD 6AL Installation

Solder with shrink wrap. This will give you the best reliability. Never a question about the mechnical crimp or oxidation. This does require some skill. I would use a low wattage iron 25-50 watt pencile looking iron. Make the splice linear but twist the wire so it overlaps. A picture would...

    Big engine problem

I second the re-check the points. Be sure you have replaced the capacitor. A weak spark can cause the symtoms you describe. If the spark is weak the plugs will look black & sooty. I always like to do the easy fix first. If thats not it press on with the fuel deliver as a problem.

How to fix a sagging door?

Did this fix on my 74. You need to remove the door panel. First take off the inside handles then remove the screws that hold the panel. Assuming no power windows. You will need the help of a friend. Next step is unbolt the door from the hinge. Before you start, put some masking tape on the...

    Rear Stabilizer Bar Linbk Bushings

I did this last winter. Had to play with it a little. Used lots of lub and I put a noose around the bushing as I started it into the hole. I used a nylon zip-tie which I cut off after it started in. It kept the bushing from bulging out of shape as it starts in.

    Distance from Frame to Ground

It was a long way to the house yesterday so I am a day late on my promised update. The dimentions for J,K & D if you have feature FE7 HD suspention are J= 8.18 inches K = 8.13 inches d= 2.15 inches.

    Distance from Frame to Ground

Yes the 7 leaves would indicate FE7 option code. The numbers are different will get them this evening. If I recall the differences are in the 1/2 range.

    Distance from Frame to Ground

If you check out the following diagram. I think you are looking for the J K & D dimention. J= 8.42 inches K = 8.27 inches d= 2.24 inches Assumption is no FE7(HD suspention) Another general check -- 28 +/- 1/2 inches to the top of the wheel arch. That is a good first check. As stated this is...

    brake bleed question,help needed

Just completed a 4 wheel brake rebuild plus several lines. It took just over two hours for the fluid to reach the back using just gravity to move it along. I just opened one of the bleed valves and put a hose and a collection bottle on and let it sit. When I got fluid I moved to the next...

    69 Conversion to Power Brakes

I have not done the work but I did do the research for my 74. Here is the summary version. 1)New brake lines from Master cylindar to distribution block. Different routing. 2)New Master cylindar New bore size required for PB. 3)Power booster with vacume lines. 4)Mounting of booster is lower...

    Front Wheel alignment

Way cool. I love to be self sufficent. My wife is making some noise over my shoulder about the one time use aspect but I just reminded her of how I used the sand blaster on the patio furniture. I will get me one of these and get to where I need to be. May not be a laser but it will get me...

    Front Wheel alignment

norvalwilhelm, Thanks that is all good input. I am very comfortable with the parts involved. Not sure I could get the upper CR out in 30 minutes but you are correct it is an easy job. Over this last winter I removed every suspention part front & rear and put in all new rubber parts, bead...

    Front Wheel alignment

I understand the point on not being able to do the imposible. I did some more research. I have convinced myself the left front frame is 1/2 inch high. This generates the out of shim condition for camber. I have a plan to fix this but that will be next winter. On the other hand the .2...

    Front Wheel alignment

Thanks for the feed back. For the front, they can get .5 negative camber on both sides and that will give enough room to set a better Caster number. Good point on the radial vs belted tires they were trying to set positive camber on the front. Also they had spent 3 hours setting the back...

    Front Wheel alignment

Just got back from the alignment shop after finishing my total suspention re-work. The rear wheels came in just fine. They had trouble on the front. The left from camber is .2 negative and they had no more shims to take out. The right is set to .3 positive camber. I thnk my real issue is...

    Should there be o-rings here?

If the end of the flare fitting is damaged it will leak. Here is a trick that might help if the damaged end is not too bad. Clean up & dry both halfs of the connection. Take thread lock blue and coat the end of the flare. Assemble & Wait 4 hours then try it out. Might close a small gap. The...

    A few questions!

I am not an expert since I have only done one complete rear suspention rebuild, but I am a little concerned about your ramp idea. The half shafts also keep the trailing arms in the correct loaction. With them out you would only have the spring and camber arms holding the the car in the right...
