The fog lights on my '89 have always switched on and off independent of the headlights. Now they only come on with the low beams. I have a fsm but have yet to find a good wiring schematic for troubleshooting. Any suggestions to find the problem!?
Does anyone out there know the correct part number for an intake manifold gasket for an 89 L98 with stock aluminum heads? The parts store listings show a lot of different ones. Some have the rear port blocked off. Some have the center port baffled with metal. All different port sizes. I...
Checked fuses - both OK
Started up with new spark plugs.
Disconnected one injector at a time on passenger side.
Seems to be running on at least 7 cylinders now. I think I've isolated it to one injector not working.
I'll pick up a noid light and check the signal asap.
If one injector is bad, do...
Anybody have any idea about what is causing this problem? 1989 L98 started to misfire while driving down the road. This is what I checked so far:
-No codes registered.
-Checked all ignition wires with inductive timing light. All flashed OK.
-Fuel pressure OK (50 psi +/-)
-Replaced...
Word of advice - if your low coolant light comes on and the coolant resevoir tank is not empty, alway remove the radiator cap and be sure the radiator is full to the top. If it is low, then you have a leak in the system and can't maintain a vacuum to pull coolant in from the resevoir. It could...
The two yellow things are inline fuses. Looks like two power taps going somewhere in the car. You can try pulling the fuses and see what doesn't work anymore.
That is the air pump diverter and switching valve. It is part of the pollution control system and diverts the air to the exhaust manifold, cat conv., or air intake.
The 700R4 in my '89 has been having an intermittent problem. Under hard accelleration when in OD over 55 mph, it suddenly feels like it comes out of gear and the engine revs free. Sometimes it will vibrate bad and feel like it's trying to shift back in. Other times, you can let up on the...
Thanks for the heads-up, nyernga. I've been thinking of replacing the coil next to see if that is the problem. Thought maybe someone else might have had a similar experience and could enlighten me. P.S.- I'm located in SW Georgia, near Albany.
It's an 89 L-98, recently rebuilt with TPIS ZZ9 cam, 1.6:1 roller rockers, bigmouth manifold, large tube runners, 52mm TB, ported plenum & MAF, Level V Prom. Wires are new. The coil is an Accel Super Coil that I put on several years ago.
For the last few months, I have been having a problem with the contacts on my distributor cap. I first start noticing misfiring on acceleration. If I clean the contacts with sandpaper or scrape them with a file, it runs great again. I've tried caps with brass and with aluminum contacts. The same...
Thanks to all that replied. As usual in issues like this, there are some differences in opion on what to do. It's good to hear all sides and have these ideas to make a decision on. I'm pretty well convinced to try to re-sleeve the cylinder. Most people I talk to seem to think it is a common...
After 200,000 trouble-free miles on my 89 L98 without ever opening the engine, I did a complete rebuild. Valve job, new pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump, ZZ-9 cam, roller-rockers, big-mouth manifold, large tube runners, ported plenum, 52 mm TB, PROM, etc. It ran great for a week, about 150...
You were right, OldChev, it is the oil pressure sending unit. There sure is a bunch of stuff in the way. I had photos pointing right in there and still can't see it. For anyone that may need to know in the future, here's a photo of how I believe it will go back together. The intake manifold...
Hey, thanks! You guys rock! I've been looking all over the block and didn't see that port. The intake is still off and I overlooked it thinking it was a bolt hole. Thanks again.
