Once the paint was off of my 59, it became apparent that the car was either hit or backed over something low such that the driver's side rear valance panel was crushed just below the exhaust outlet and behind the bumper. Whoever fixed it used a gallon or two of bondo and glass.
I am hoping to...
Larry,
Thanks for asking. Things are going well. We're ready for the body shop and I'm waiting on them to make room for it. As soon as the body is delivered we'll start on the exhaust system. As John found, nobody has a mandrel pipe bender around these parts so it'll have to be custom built...
One of the things that troubles me is this whole "re-creation" thing. AKA "clones". That, to me, is stupid money-I can't believe what these counterfeit cars are getting (Hemis, Yenkos, etc.). :crazy
Rick
:gap
Know what you mean about stupid money. B-J had a Hemi GTX clone (started as a...
Yeah, it does look hard even after reading through the 13 pages of detailed instructions (with color pictures). There's a guy selling these kits on Ebay for less than the listed price on the website. We'll see... I still have time to decide.
The project is finally in progress (yeah!). My SRIII...
I thought this 2speed conversion kit looked like an interesting alternative to the side-mounted kit sold thru Corvette Central. The motor mounts under the dash instead of behind the kick panel.
Does anyone have any experience with this kit? What are your thoughts...
LOL...you're sure right about that!. Every once in a while one can find a bargain, but probably not on Ebay. By the way, the LS2 that sold last week for $9800...well, apparently the winning bidder reneged and now they are emailing me as runner up. Sorry...I had my one moment of insanity and they...
Thanks Larry,
It has been a while hasn't it. I've changed companies and cities since I last posted, but I've been keeping up with the rest of you and your progresses.
I went ahead and had Mike build a roller for me. Pretty much like yours, except I had him notch the rear crossmember to...
I guess I should have said "elusive, reasonable LS2". I've got that one on my watch list. I don't know if it's a good price either, but one sold the previous week for $9700. I helped bid that one up, but sure would have been mad had I won it.
Love the color. 17"X10"s in the rear!!! Small wonder they didn't advertise a soft top to go with it.
By the way, my SRIII is due to arrive this weekend so I'll be back in busiiness soon. Now if I can just find that elusive LS2.
Regards...
I feel your pain Herb, as I am by nature a tightwad too. But after corresponding with John, Rich and Larry over the last year I've determined that there really is no other way to go than with the C5/C4 set up. I decided to save a little longer and get the one I wanted rather than the one I could...
Larry,
You look pretty proud in that 1st picture...as well you should be. Car looks great!! If you see Mike at Carlisle, ask him to hurry up and start fabricating my frame. I've got some serious catching up to do.
Wes
Larry,
That's great! Wish I could be in Carlisle this year to see that beautiful car in person, but probably not going to happen. Let us all know how it goes.
Wes
John,
Having seen pictures of your work on the 59, I'm thinking you won't have to worry about bragging rights no matter which engine you decide on.
On another note, can you tell me the length of the frame on your rotisserie? You forwarded the dimensions to me a while back, but all I have is...
1962. I was 7 years old and my dad had just received his orders, transferring from Elsworth AFB in Rapid City SD to Altus AFB in Oklahoma. We were in New Jersey visiting my mom's family when her brother arrived in his beautiful black '59 w/ silver coves and red interior. He had bought the car...
Larry,
Luckily my tabs are intact, but I do have a lot of pitting on both the door and windshield posts. I am hoping these pits can be filled and the posts rechromed, but if not I could be your first customer.
