Question: C3 Brake light switch again

I'm wondering if the original looked like this photo: http://i.ebayimg.com/03/!BcoY+C!!2k~$(KGrHqUOKjkEq5UJorjkBK1SrQZ3cg~~_12.JPG

Question: C3 Brake light switch again

Thanks for the info. I've always had it more like 3/16". I'll try 1/2" with the new switch.

Question: C3 Brake light switch again

They are sealed up - so hard to say. Just fails to complete the circuit. The only one I autopsied didn't look bad inside, but it still didn't work everytime. Nothing broken or burned. Looked like it was designed for 2 sets of points (like old ignition points) , but only had one set installed...

Question: C3 Brake light switch again

1971 Was the original brake light switch #3954246 100% plastic like the replacements? I can't remember for sure, but I thought it was cast metal. After about 5 new switches in 33 years it occurs to me something could be wrong. I adjust it to make contact with very little pedal travel. Could...

    Powerglide kickdown problem

That carb linkage is the problem then. Mine is 11 3/8" instead of 12 3/4". The lower rod checked out with your aa 1/4. We thought we knew for sure that the carb link was the original part that came on the car. Thanks Dennis!

    Powerglide kickdown problem

I just had the transmission rebuilt in hopes of correcting this. (but also had a lot of leaks). With the linkage disconnected it upshifts at about 50mph or 15 mph, depending on where you leave the lever positioned. New modulator was installed. The bell crank "looks" perfect. The straight...

    2870 block question

I noticed there are two different casting number sizes on 2870 blocks. Anybody know the significance of this? Thanks.

    Powerglide kickdown problem

Thanks Chuck. Did all that but the rod was too long. I'm thinking wrong parts, but not sure which one. Carb is the original number, but could have been rebuilt with a wrong shaft at some point. I could eliminate the rod as the suspect if I can get the correct length.

    Powerglide kickdown problem

Can anyone tell me how long the straight piece of kickdown linkage from the transmission lever up to the "bell crank" should be? I'm beginning to think this one is the wrong part. If hooked up, the car won't upshift and I can't adjust it enough to change it. Thanks. Car is 66 327.

    Q-jet metering rods again

Thanks Mike. Turns out that is what is in it. Apparently something else is wrong instead.

    Q-jet metering rods again

In case someone else needs Q-jet original spec information, try these 2 links: http://www.florida4x4.com/tech/quadrajet/index.php http://domesticmisfits.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=674&sid=4eee2648d085edb2d67130635eef7f09

    Q-jet metering rods again

Could someone direct me to a chart showing the original rod and jet sizes for a 71 350 Auto? Also, are the fixed orifices on the secondaries always the same? How can I tell if someone drilled those out ?? Thanks

    Steering wanders, looking for ideas

One grim possibility - actually happened to me -- the welds in the left frame rail in the engine compartment cracked resulting in a frame that easily rotated under the torque of the engine. (The left motor mount bolts to an arm that offers a lot of leverage to the frame) The PS slave...

Anyone know coil spring specs for part# 14003398 ?

In a previous thread I tried to find a source for original replacement coil springs for a '71 and never had any luck. I finally got a pair of NOS GM springs #14003398 and am hesitant to install until I find the application and spring rate. They are rumored to be 1982---but my books stop in 1976...

    Leaking caliper piston

I have been doing mine one corner at a time due to brake hoses. They go bad internally and act like a one way valve. The brakes remain slightly applied, get hot, ruin everything including rotors, pads, seals, and even wheel paint. Very expensive lesson(s). I'll never rebuild calipers again...

Where to find "stock" new springs?

Geoffrey- I emailed them and asked if they could exactly duplicate GM spring # 3931824. No answer, but it has only been a few days. They claim to have the specs on many thousands of springs, so I thought the original factory number might likely be how they are indexed. If I ever hear back...

Where to find "stock" new springs?

I need new springs to replace the 3931824 s on the 1971/auto/a/c standard suspension. I can't find the original spring rate, but was told it was around 300. All the new springs I can find (I suspect they are usually Moog under various names) are about 460. I called a spring specialty outfit...
