The owners manual says 6.5 quarts and also references, if using your car for racing it is recommended to add an additional quart (total 7.5 quarts). I have changed the oil on my 2004 Z06 Z16 from day one and have always put in 7 quarts, no problems. :beer

What kind of odor are you talking about, can you describe it. Is it like burnt metal ??? I got that smell from just revving my motor in nuetral once and wondered if that is the same as you described.
