Greetings fellow C2 enthusiasts..
I have not posted in a while. Hope everyone is staying safe during these times.
I am hoping to get some guidance/recommendation on a shop or person who can help with my 66's carb. It is a Holley carb 4160, list 7010...not the original carb.
I rebuilt the...
I am currently rebuilding my Holley - not the original - it is list 7010, so model 4160. I am intending to order the trick kit 33-933 but in
corresponding with Holley they say the Pump Discharge Needle Valve - #74 in the EXPLODED VIEW - MODEL 4150/4160 is an obsolete part now and not included...
thanks Rich, does it ruin the MC if you do bottom out? How far should you depress the piston?
I was under the impression that full compression of the piston would be reflective of the
actual brake pedal rod doing the same. Sounds like this is not the case.
Thanks for your help.
NIck
Well, today I bench bled the master cylinder to get all the air out of the piston which I thought was going fine until I noticed brake fluid leaking out of the rear of the piston.:mad
This was the reason I had to buy a new one in the first place.
So, back it goes to Ecklers who are shipping...
Well I posed the question to Ecklers where I bought the cylinder from and they responded:
You can bleed the cylinder any way you want. The MFGR adds this disclaimer to cover their selves. Thank you. (that's a direct quote and spelling)
Anyway it seems I can bench bleed the cylinder......I...
Well, I bought the bench bleeding kit and was all set to proceed but when I took the new master cylinder out of the package a small piece of paper came with it which said
"WARNING, due to the OEM design on this cylinder, you should not attempt to bench bleed prior to installation. THIS ITEM...
Thank you JohnZ for your response...can I however install the cylinder and just bleed the
fluid into a container instead of the setup shown in your reply?
Hi there-
The new master cylinder I just received from Ecklers has a rubber boot on it and I would like to know if I keep it on the cylinder throughout the installation or do I remove it at some point and then reinstall it.
If you have any additional installation tips I would appreciate...
Thanks everyone for your replies...the bulb is indeed a 1157 and seems to be centered
in the socket but the melting does in fact occur on one side and it is the only lens
that is melting. However, I did replace two lenses when I first got the car.
Thanks Tom, John
I have not noticed the light remaining on but I will look into that.
Is there a specific problem that would cause the light to stay on?
Nick
My passenger side taillight (red one) on my 66 appears to be melting from
the heat of the bulb. I'm almost 100% sure that I replaced all of the bulbs
at some point years back to make sure the correct ones were being used.
Can there be anything else to cause melting of the lens?
Thanks...
Had the car out yesterday between rain storms and decided to take a few pics with my phone. They came out ok but could be better...I will try again with my digital cam corder when I figure out how to use it.:D
Happy New Year to all of you.
I forget where I got my sidepipes - I want to say Ecklers - however, I did have to remove the heat riser due to the butterfly valve hitting the new pipes. I replaced the riser with a spacer which is readily available.
As long as it is clear and dry out I will drive my 66 at least once a month through the winter. Other than that I will drive the 98 or my Honda Ridgeline.
Carb Help
Thank you all so much for your input on this matter. This past weekend I rechecked the dwell degrees and it was registering 34 so I reset it to 30. I then
hooked up a vacuum guage to the carb and that came in at a steady 17...right where it is supposed to be.
I took the car for a...
Thanks, John. I have been corresponding with Summit Racing and Holley Carb Number
HLY-0-80457S seems to be the correct current replacement for my car unless I want to
find an original somewhere. This new Holly does not have adjustable floats and is not
dichromatic but it might fit the bill if I...
Thank you so much Hib. The 2 fuel line going into the bowls do not make it a double
pumper? I am a little confused at to what makes a carb a double pumper. The car originally had a 4160 according to the owners manual, just at a lower cfm. The car did seem to run better after putting in the R45...
