My 1986 coupe needs new springs. What are the spring rates for the original springs (no Z51)?
I want nice street ride about what original was like. Any suggestion for what springs to choose?
Thanks boomdriver,
The front spring is the only thing that has not been dismounted. However, it was shimed about 1/4" at inner left side (just for testing purpose) but with no change. Of course I have to take the spring off but the car is in garage over winter right now so it has to wait...
On my '86 the rear left side is about 1" lower than the right side. On front it is about 1/2" lower on left side. It can be leveled by adjusting the screws at the rear springs, but need 2-3" different setting left-to-right. The rear spring has been taken down and turned and all links have been...
Thanks. However, I got the BF Goodrich and just got the car out for the season. Not much testing yet (the alternator died today). But the noise level is ok I think.
Good to hear there are some surviver out there! Mine have 165k miles on it. The engine and transmission (auto) has been rebuilt some yeras ago as well as all wear ant tear parts during the year. I had mine repainted last summer. The clear coat had been peeling off piece by piece since longe time...
No, have not tried Swedish forums. Please post links!
Am at the moment considering the BFGoodrich from Tirerack. Will just wait one more reply from a dealer in Sweden.
hi oldpilot
I saw on a US website (TireRack) that the Avids are called "all season" and interpreted that as being more like a winter tire (mud and snow?).
At the same site the BFGoodrich g-force Sport are listed as "summer" tires. As I only drive during summer I looked at the BFs. I thought I...
To find 255/50-16 tires to my 86 seem impossible here in Europe.
I like to drive my vette original, with the original rims, and I hate to have to give that up. How do you c4-owners solve your tire problems?
- What 255/50-16 can I get and from where?
- What other size 16" tire would you say can...
Even though I have been the owner for 19 years I do not have any good digital pictures. Here is a link (http://www.vettebuff.com/bilder/corvette/smoke1.jpg) to a very old picture from the days I lived in the US (have been back in Sweden for a loong time now). I just need to go through the...
Anybody out there that still have the paint scheme white/silver on your 1986 (or 1987) Corvette?
I just got my 1986 re-painted to original spec, white upper and silver lower. I love that color scheme and it is one contributor to that I kept the car for 19 years!
I think I saw somewhere that...
How is the switching between miles/h and km/h happening? Is it the actual figures that changes? Or in a different phrasing; is the max readout on the speedometer always 200 regardless of it is 200miles/h or 200km/h?
Somebody said that the speedometer in his car, showing mph could be switched easily to show km/h. It is a 2008 model. Is that so? If so, can it be done on previous year C6 as well?
When is it usually time to replace the fuel injectors?
What symptoms should I be looking for?
I have an 86 with 160k miles. Everything eles has been rebuilt or replaced througout the years (for different reasons) but not the injectors. It is all stock, no mods.
Have not checked the plugs lately. And now the car is put away for the winter (not at my house) so it has to wait.
Why is it that it seem easier to find 24's (to a good deal) than 22's? Or isn't is?
Thanks for the replies. The IAC, EGR are replaced. The cables checked and throttle body etc cleaned. The TPS is adjusted according to the books and checking the range against a volt meter it seem to work fine. This is where I start think about the injectors.
So you say 24's would work? Coudn't...
The enginee is rebuilt some thousand miles ago (at 140k miles) but the injectors were left alone. I do not get the same punch I THINK I remember from the days the car was 50k miles. And definitely not the fuel milage. I now also encounter slow reving down, the car (automatic) kind of drives by...
