    Very disappointed in MAD

It sounds to me like Mid America mistakenly sent you the stock appearing mufflers with dual functioning outlets http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=3.119.969 I have a pair of these on my 86 coupe with 3.07 gears and even with the Walker crossover Y pipe in back they still resonate loudly inside...

I did the same thing and it worked just fine.

    C4 1986 restoration

I enjoyed looking at the pictures on your web page. Nice job rebuilding the seats! Did you replace the lumbar bladders, pumps and switches? I have replaced them on my driver's side seat and plan to replace the other side soon. The lumbar parts are expensive. Did you replace the air pump on...

    Maf

When my MAF died a few weeks ago I disconnected its electrical plug and drove the car 40 miles home. The engine will run a little different, as the ECM goes into a limp home mode when the MAF is not working. It feels like you turned off the ignition every time you take your foot off the...

    Sport seat lumbar bladder replacement

I can now answer my own question. The black rubber material stuck to the inside of the seat cover was the old bladder! :L It had completely deterioriated from age. What threw me is that the replacement bladders are made from clear material, but the original was made from black material.

    Sport seat lumbar bladder replacement

Hey 6speeder, Thanks for the offer on the diaphram. I haven't taken apart the passenger's seat yet so I don't know what shape everything is in. You are right about the cost. I ordered the whole system for the driver's side from Eckler's - pump, switch assembly and bladder. Seems like all...

    Sport seat lumbar bladder replacement

Thanks for the reply 6speeder. The four clips are the hog rings that I removed. Since the bladder is no longer there (removed by someone in the past) I have no choice but to replace it. The pump is also completely ruined and must be replaced. The plastic crankshaft that slips onto the motor...

    Sport seat lumbar bladder replacement

Has anyone replaced the lumbar bladder in their sport seat(s)? I took apart the driver's side seat from my '86 yesterday but would like some confirmation that I did it right. The factory manual gives instructions for replacing the bladder and the way I interpreted them you have to remove the...

    Transmission upshift problem

My car does exactly the same thing. I adjusted the TV cable and it made the gear shifts firmer but did not change the speed at which the shifts take place. I had a transmission shop check it out and they said they could adjust the shift points. I don't know how much the adjustments alone would...

    Copper Metallic c4 rare?

After seeing the paint chips I can tell the difference between copper metallic and dark red metallic. Z51 has pros and cons. Pros: The wider wheels look good The oil cooler, HD radiator and boost fan seem like a good thing, especially in Georgia where it gets pretty hot in the summer. It...

Interior Piece Removal on a 1989 Corvette

You will need to remove the light. Start by removing the lens. Slip a small screwdriver under the rear edge and pry gently. The lens will pop loose. The bulb and reflector can then be removed by slippling the screwdriver between the reflector's upper edge and the surrounding panel. Once you...

    Windshield

C4 windshields can be very expensive to replace. You can easily spend $800 - $1000. Not only do you have to replace the glass itself, but usually you will have to replace the weatherstripping the goes around the windshield frame, the left, right, and top surround mouldings, and the left and...

    HEADS

Did your '85 have an EGR pipe running from the exhaust manifold on the passenger side to the TPI baseplate? My '86 with iron heads does. Does that mean that it does not have internal EGR porting in the heads?

    engine vin

Yes, Corvette iron heads are perimeter bolt and aluminum heads are center bolt. I'm pretty sure that there are iron center bolt heads that were used on other Chevrolet products like trucks, etc. but not on Corvettes. From what I can gather the '86 iron heads are the same ones that were used...

    engine vin

My '86 coupe was also produced in 11-85 and it has iron heads. The valve covers for aluminum heads have four screws down the center while the iron head valve covers have their screws through the flange that sits against the head.

    water in gas?

I siphoned out a few gallons of gas like you suggested. A few tablespoons of brown water out came out with the gas. It is pretty hard to get anything down into the tank with the fuel pump and everything in the way. I used a piece of aluminum tubing attached to a flexible hose. I put the...

    Aux. fan plug

Bad, Yes it does. You don't have to be nearly as careful because the cast iron threads are way stronger that the cast aluminum. On the other hand, there is no significant difference in the expansion rates of steel and cast iron so the plug will probably be no looser when warm. I'd be less...

    Aux. fan plug

I design industrial equipment for applying heated materials and so I have some experience with steel pipe plugs in aluminum. First of all, be very careful because you can strip out the threads in the soft aluminum head casting. Anybody ever stripped out a spark plug hole in an aluminum head...

    water in gas?

Thanks for the suggestion jiangtao. My harness also has insulation shrink at the MAF relays. I'd like to know how others have repaired this problem. I tried heat shrink tubing but I didn't have any that was large enough to fit over the pins (terminals?) on the individual wires and would still...
