Third/center brake light issue on '98

Acquired a '98 and working through some minor issues with it. The third/center brake light wasn't working and was setting a C1295 code and disabling TCS when the hazards were triggered. I removed it and found that one of the legs in the connector was broken, so I replaced it. But, it's still...

High oil temp, low oil press. WTF?

Thanks, it was great news for sure. Looks like that stuff was never inside the engine anyway, and I changed the oil, so no worries.

High oil temp, low oil press. WTF?

Thanks for the suggestions Daniel, but it all may be moot. Wanted to update on this, the first thing was that once I removed the chunks I found in the oil and let the oil drain off of them for a day, they didn't look like bearing material at all. It was metal, but it was so fragile it crumbled...

High oil temp, low oil press. WTF?

I don't drag race anymore, Hib. This car is all street driven. It has 235/40 series Falken FK-452's on 18's. The 282 runs RP synthetic fluid and has output shaft support bearings and no rubber mounts. This keeps the aluminum case from cracking and helps the spider gears survive the added...

High oil temp, low oil press. WTF?

Great questions Hib, I get asked that a lot. As far as traction goes, there are two mechanical reasons that a Fiero has inherently better traction properties than, say, a car with a front engine/rwd layout. The first is the most obvious - with the rear-mid engine configuration, the most...

High oil temp, low oil press. WTF?

Yup, it is... full disclosure, it's an '88 Fiero with an SBC V8 conversion. Again, like I said, didn't want anyone to lose sight of this being an engine problem, but now that I've figured it out, there it is. This happens at a somewhat disappointing time because I just got the bastard running...

High oil temp, low oil press. WTF?

Good news, I found metal chunks in the oilpan when I drained it. It's UPGRADE TIME! :happyanim:

High oil temp, low oil press. WTF?

I never said it was an '88 Corvette. The gages in it are all analog. It's just easiest to think of this as an OBD-1 LT4 engine with TPI, because the car is a hybrid of so many things that I don't want anyone losing sight of the forest for the trees, know what I mean? The oil pressure is now...

High oil temp, low oil press. WTF?

My car ('88 with 350 GM crate ZZ430 w/ '91 TPI) has been down for about four years during a long-term project to upgrade to headers. Once I got it back up and running in February, I noticed my oil temp gage was running high. It would start out normal for the first few minutes, but then...

    Best fluid for '99 T56?

The shop owner wants to try a different fluid that he's calling "Impact" by MTL. I did some googling and it looks like MTL is a Red Line brand, but there's nothing made by them by that name. He says it is a heavier oil that can even quiet a ZF. Anyone heard of this before? I'm concerned about...

    Best fluid for '99 T56?

The other problem is first gear's engagement is stubborn. intermittently as I'm engaging it, It feels like it is going in about 3/4ths of the way then it either refuses to go any further and pops back out to neutral as I release the clutch (then grinds like an SOB going back in again) or takes...

    Best fluid for '99 T56?

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Junkie you're amazing, nailed it as usual. It actually does make the same noise in 5th, it just isn't as prevalent because of the 2000rpm minimum. I haven't had the chance to test it in 6th yet (har-har, who here knows how fast you have to go in 6th to...

    Best fluid for '99 T56?

I had my tranny rebuilt, but now it has this annoying whine in 1-3 from 2k rpm+. I don't know what the shop filled it with, but is this something that the right fluid can fix, or does it need more than that?

Trying to find pics & videos of '94 museum parade on I-65... Did some searching on Google, YouTube, Yahoo and VetteTube and haven't turned up anything of the parade down I-65 into Bowling Green. Anyone know where that footage has gone? Thanks, Dave

How to remove inner tie rod from rack?

That did it. I had to try tool sets from both Autozone and O'Reilly's before I found the one from O'Reilly's worked, but it worked to get the thing off without pulling the rack. The inner tie rod was ony $26 and the tools were loaners, way less and easier than a rack rebuild job. Thanks LT4Man!

How to remove inner tie rod from rack?

LT4man, you rock! Thanks, I'll see if they have that as a loaner tool at the parts store.

How to remove inner tie rod from rack?

I'm trying to replace my inner tie rod on the driver's side of my '96 LT4. I got the bellows off, and I know it threads on, but there's nothing to grab hold of to twist it off. Tried to grab at it with some vise grips, but the outside ring of the joint spins freely. What's the trick to this...
