Hello Gang,
I'm having a problem with a bouncing fuel gauge on my '79. When the car is sitting still at idle, the fuel gauge reads like it should. When the car starts moving, the gauge will start bouncing like there is a short. Right now I have 3/4 tank of gas at stand still. When I start...
Watch that scoop if you plan to run it. My first vette was a 62. Had a scoop on it just like that. Hit a blackbird at 80. Bounced off the front of the car and right into the scoop. Didn't take long for the motor to shut down;LOL
Should Corvette split from Chevrolet like Viper did from Dodge
Why? Corvette has been a main stay in the Chevrolet stable since '53. Over the years the designer and engineers have fine tuned it into the spectacular car it is. I believe the future will bring even a better Corvette from Chevy...
If I may add one more note, depending on the comfort of ride you're looking for, it will make a difference on whether you use rubber or poly bushings. I used poly on my 68 when I rebuilt the front and rear suspension and if the road is smooth the ride is smooth. If the road has one little bump...
Steven,
Thank you for your service. Listen to them. They're steering you in the right direction. Wait until you're home and do the hunt yourself. It will be fun and educational. You'll learn a lot. Stay safe and come on back home to Iowa. We'll be waiting for you.
Just throwing in my two-cents worth. After rebuilding my front and rear suspension on my 68, took it to the Chevy dealership. Cost me $220 for both the front and rear and for the last 2 years it's been driving like a dream.
If you have to store it outside you might want to consider a product called "Garage in a Box." My brother bought one last fall to store his boat in. He picked it up at Menards. There's plenty of room for a C-3. It's priced around $300 and it held up real well to the brutal Iowa winter.
Not sure where you can find the old style resistors. Since I put new gauges in I put the old resistors back on my old gauges when I stored them. You might be able to find them at the various gauge rebuilding shops. Roger's helped me with my problem.

Here is the place that helped me...
You say you changed out the gauge with a new one. Not sure if the 81 is the same as 68 but when I changed out mine, there was a small resistor on the back of the gauge that bolted on the 2 poles on back of the gauge. I put the new gauge back in with the resistor in place and my gauge read way...
It's been several years back but I converted mine from R-12 to 134A. Had to change out the compressor and I believe it was the dryer also that had to be changed. It was a $800 conversion but it works well. Good Luck.
It's a beautiful car. Years back a buddy of mine had a 63 split window and let me drive it. It was a blast but the split in the rear window did make looking behind difficult. The rear window looks like it would be a little tougher than the original 63. Thanks for sharing the pics.
I read where the spare tire is intregrated in with the rear end and is part of the rear impact set-up. I keep mine in because you never know when some one won't be paying attention and rear end you. Good luck.
