    Question: 1973 Steering Problem

UPDATE!!!!! I bought a third Steering cylinder from MID AMERICA (re-manf). Installed it and took my time with it. I had both front tires jacked-up and I left the shaft off the frame bracket from the cylinder/ram. I took a long neck funnel and added 3 dixie cups of fluid to the PS unit. Last time...

Thanks Guy. But the car is MINT! Got to keep it original. I know what your'e talking about. @ $1200.00. My next one will have it and I'll drive the car. Sorry to say this Vette out of many I've owned is a trailer Queen. AND, I think that's why stuff is breaking. My good friend once told me, "if...

    Question: 1973 Steering Problem

OK,Here's what I did. I took off the NEW steering cylinder and sent it back to ECKLER'S. I ordered a rebuild kit from AMW. All the shipping was over $50.00. GEEEEEEZ! SO, I took my old unit and removed the seals. Polished the shaft and painted it Gloss black. the one I got from ECKLER's was grey...

    Question: 1973 Steering Problem

Well, NOT GOOD! Had the wife drive the car on a back country road and she had the same problem. CONSTANTLY fighting the wheel back & forth at 35 mph and above. She discribed it best by saying, "it's like driving on ice". When we first got the car she was driving it at 80 MPH and was amazed that...

    Question: 1973 Steering Problem

PETE, update. With the shaft removed and the engine running there was @ 1" free play both ways. As soon as I felt tension on the wheel and I continued to turn the wheel the shaft would shoot in and out. After letting it sit I did this about 8 times. Now there seems to be @ 1/2" or less free...

    Question: 1973 Steering Problem

Thanks again Pete! Here's where I'm at on this fine Sunday afternoon...... I jacked-up both front tires. Turned the ignition to on, as the steering column locks. I pushed on the tires and the steering wheel moved quite a bit. There didn't seem to be excess play. I disconnected the steering...

    Question: 1973 Steering Problem

The whinning stopped when I topped it off. I used the correct fluid. Rubber grommets and washers are on correctly. The whole suspension is new. Bushings, ball joints, tie rods, idler arm etc. I'd say there is @ 1" to 1 1/4" delay in the steering wheel before the wheels turn. I checked my F-150...

    Question: 1973 Steering Problem

I recently re-did the front suspension on my 73 BB. The whole rebuild package. I took it in for the Front & Rear wheel alignment and the shop did a great job. The next day I looked under the car and it was leaking power steering fluid. I took the car back to the Chevy garage and the guy told me...

    73 BUILD SHEET ?

WOW! Thanks a ton. Being a retired F.F. I'm aware of KABOOMS! I'm going to print this and let the chevy garage do it. I like doing stuff myself but this one I'll pass on. Albeit, can't be as bad as a knew Tach cable & heater core. OUCH! Thanks again.

    73 BUILD SHEET ?

My 73 454 has the build sheet on top of the gas tank. I seen it when I removed the rubber boot on the filler. Last year someone here said I should leave it intact and take a close-up photo of it. Which I intend to do. My Q is, "any tips on dropping the tank"? I ran it almost dry so there's very...

    tach stopped working this morning

Did my 73 454 last year. NOT FUN. Do the speedo also while it's ripped apart,(if that's what you have to do). My cable was busted inside the Tach. Take your time, have bandaids for you cut knuckles. Also, if you have to take the dash out be careful not to bust your door ajar swtich when laying...

    73 Front Bumper Painting

THANKS for the quick reply. But, have you done that with a rubber bumper? These things really flex. You can bend them in half. Granted gm that's what I would like to do. BUT, I'm scared I'll damage it during the install.

    73 Front Bumper Painting

HI GUYS! Haven’t posted since 06. Vette was in storage sleeping for the cold WI winters. I bought a new GM original front urethane bumper. The old one was checking. My question is…. Should I bolt the new one on and then have it painted or have it painted first? HMMMMM? There are a lot of...

    73 Build Sheet Q#2

Read all the threads here Greek. I'm still not sure what to do with my 73 RE: the build sheet. I found mine by pulling up the boot around the gas cap. Thanks to people on this site I found it. If you have a new gas tank, IMO it's gone. "Jeff"
