I bought mine off of Collectorcartraderonline. I wanted to get one that was close enough to see before purchasing and also wanted to take the Corvette expert I knew with me to look at it. I found it only 1.5 hours away.
In VA it lists pretty much all the regulations that are listed above in MA, except the DMV code says "for the occasionial pleasure use, not to exceed 250 miles from home". Fortunately that allows you to not have to stretch the code by driving it on nice days just for the fun of it.
I know of a guy selling a 34000 mile original 72 LT-1 Air coupe. It is in absolutely perfect condition. I heard a rumor that he is asking 60K for it, and I think it's worth it.
Just an idea, when I replaced the pump on my 81 Z28 I used to have, the manager at my local Advance Auto pulled the pulley off my old pump and put it on the new one for no charge and right there while I waited. Of course I do shop there a lot and they know me.
Allthumbs, you mention as long as the weather is over 50 and it's nice you'll drive the car. I don't care what the outside temp it, my heater works great. For me it just has to be a perfectly sunny day and the roads have to be perfectly clear. It's not too many days here in VA that they salt...
Hello from Mechanicsville. Sorry I have no knowledge to add, but am curious as to what others think, so here's a bump for you. I plan to keep the A/C on my 79, but may eventually go to a DeWitt's setup with their electric fan.
24x30 detached garage. No heat, no lift, and not easily accesible, but still better than leaving the car outside. Future plans call for isulation, heat and A/C and possilby an addition with a lift.
If you drive it even every few weeks, there's no reason to winterize. My take on winterization is for people in the Northeast, or other similar places who get snowed in for 3 or 4 months. Here in VA, I'd never put mine away for the winter, you can always sneak in a drive every so often over...
Damn nice garage. Maybe he could fill it with some nice cars. (Even old Mopars would be better that the Prowlers and Crossfire). In fact with that kind of money, if I were a Mopar guy, I'd have a Hemi Cuda on the turntable.
Thanks, John. Looks like my car has a birthday coming up soon. I knew is seemed strange since my car's serial # is in the 15000's of a 53000 car run, so I knew it had to be in the earlier part of the model run.
Well, see my post about checking #s, but I've found that I have the original engine and heads. The carb and alternator are not. I haven't chekcked the distributor or transmission. Oh, the code on the diff checks out also. I know a 79 will never be worth the money that an earlier one will...
Ok, I double checked and it looks like under closer inspection that it is a 624, not 824. Also I went further and checked out the trim tag and it shows E15, which should be May 15 build date, correct? Also anyone know anything about the guide plates on the pushrods?
Thanks guys, I may pull a valve cover again today for a closer look to see if it is a 624, not 824. I know I have the original engine as verified by the stamp on the front of the block, so I'm thinking the heads are also correct, and I just misread it. Interesting to know about the carb though.
I took my valve cover off for restoration today and found casting # 462824, where for my 79 L-82 my research shows it should be a 462624. Anyone know what a 462824 is from? Also L-82's didn't have pushrod guideplates did they? Mine does but I know the engine has been rebuilt by the previous...
I'd say definitely the appropriate response. That Z would have kicked your butt, assuming your car is stock. It is interesting though that everyone wants to challenge you just because you own a Vette. BTW, I sold an 81 Z28 to get my Vette last year, and I'm sure your 81 would have taken my 81.
As a 79 owner, I'd have to agree with have at it but only because is sounds like yours is pretty far from stock already. While we all know a 79 will never be worth what a 69 or mid year is, I think there is some value to be had, or at least I sure as hell hope so.
Ok, I'm late to the party, but thanks for the replies. I have the stock Qjet, and intake. everything the linkeage is stock. I'm driving the car to work tomrrow so I'll get someone to mash the pedal to double check.
