The chamber size on both heads are the same. 76cc. The L48 heads have 1.94 intakes and 1.50 exhaust. The L82 heads have 2.02 intakes and 1.60 exhausts. It is true that the heads are the same castings. You would notice no difference in performance unless you did some port and bowl work, and...
If you haven't done it yet, when you do bump the engine over with the starter so the fuel pump rod is as far in as it will go. It runs off the lobe on the front of the cam. You will also find a bolt in the front of the engine that goes all the way through the block into the fuel pump galley...
When you put the distributor in following this well described process, you will have to either bump the engine over with the starter or turn the oil pump shaft to line up with the distributor shaft so the distributor will drop all the way down. Good luck. Russ
I agree with you 73. I think the major difference is the type of ignition. I have found that the autolite 3911 generally lasts a few more races than the champion C59YC, but I can't say that I have seen any difference in power. As far as fouling, a good MSD will fire just about anything...
That cam is basically an L82 cam and you can use the stock converter with no problems. The 2000-2200 will fine also, but isn't necessary. Happy motoring. Russ
Glenn: I do have two good used axles. If you need them just let me know and I will send them to you. My email address is Russperformance@aol.com. Happy Motoring. Russ
Really nice car!! Nice job. I'm sure it is fun to drive. My car has a 432ci small block with a Donovan aluminum block and 18 degree heads, 4:11's and a 4 speed. Thanks for the reply. Happy Motoring. Russ
WHY DO YOU THINK THE CAM IS TOO MUCH FOR STREET USE? I THINK IT IS FAIRLY MILD. I DON'T KNOW WHY THE MANIFOLD DOESN'T FIT UNDER THE HOOD. I HAD A 406 WITH A VICTOR JR. WITH THE STOCK HOOD FOR YEARS. ARE YOU USING THE STOCK OPEN ELEMENT AIR CLEANER? HAPPY MOTORING RUSS
IF YOUR MOTOR IS STOCK YOU SHOULD HAVE 18 TO 20 INCHES OF VACUUM AT 1000 RPM. USUALLY IF YOU ARE FOULING PLUGS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IT IS EITHER OIL FOULING, OR A WEAK IGNITION. DO YOU GET ANY SMOKE WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST FIRED UP AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE? IF SO THE VALVE SEALS COULD BE...
I ALWAYS LEAVE THE TRANNY IN THE CAR UNLESS YOU ARE REBUILDING THAT TOO. I HAVE AN EXTENDABLE BOOM ON MY HOIST AND DO IT FROM THE FRONT. I PULL THE FAN, WATER PUMP AND PULLEYS OFF THE ENGINE AND CAN REMOVE THE ENGINE WITHOUT REMOVING THE FAN SHROUD. EVERYONE HAS THEIR FAVORITE APPROACH AT IT...
GLENN: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE SIR. GLAD YOU ARE HOME. AS OTHERS HAVE SAID THIS IS COMMON. THE ONLY THING WITH DRIVING IT IS IF PART OF THE CLIP IS ROLLING AROUND IN THERE YOU COULD DAMAGE THE RING AND PINION. I THINK THAT I HAVE A COUPLE OF GOOD USED ONES IN MY SPARE PARTS BIN. I HAVE...
I HAVE A 70. I TOOK THE EXHAUST TIPS AND CUT THE ORIGINAL PIPE EXTENTIONS OFF AND OPENED THE HOLE TO 2 1/2 AND WELDED A PIPE TO THE TIP. LOOKS STOCK BUT ALLOWS YOU TO USE 2 1/2 IN AND OUT MUFFLER. EXHAUST SOUNDS GREAT. HAPPY MOTORING. RUSS
WHEN THE MANIFOLDS GET CHERRY RED LIKE THAT ON BREAK-IN, IT GENERALLY MEANS THAT THE TIMING IS RETARDED. IF YOU SET THE TIMING AT 12 DEGREES AT 2000 RPM IT IS TO RETARDED. THE TIMING SHOULD BE SET AT 36 DEGREES AT 2500 RPM WITH THE VACUUM ADVANCE DISCONNECTED(IF YOU HAVE ONE). THE CENTER EXHAUST...
I LIVE IN MASS AND HAVE FOUND THAT MANY OF THEM AFTER YEARS END UP STUCK CLOSED, ESPECIALLY CARS THAT HAVE BEEN SITTING FOR A WHILE. I WOULDN'T EVEN BOTHER WITH THE SPACER. JUST SAFTEY WIRE IT OPEN AND FORGET IT. TO BE HONEST THOUGH, IF THE ENGINE IS STOCK YOU WON'T NOTICE ANY PERFORMANCE...
CORVETTE BRONZE
THANKS JOHN. COOL CAR. MY CAR HAS A 432 CI SMALL BLOCK IN IT WITH A DONOVAN ALUMINUM BLOCK AND 18 DEGREE HEADS. NOTHING LIKE A HEALTHY SOUNDING V8. RUSS
