Doug - Product choice is a highly personal preference discussion. The process is always the most important aspect, and it's best if you can try a few different products to see what *you* like best.
For car wash, I typically use Zaino Z7, Griot's Car Wash, or Meguiar's NXT Wash. For a sealant...
Be cautious when using the Absorber. They have no nap to "cushion" any missed dirt, etc., which can lead to scratching and/or swirling.
I prefer and recommend a quality waffle weave microfiber towel
Armor All is a water-based dressing and will not have a negative effect on the dash or other interior pieces. It may not be my first choice of interior dressing, but it won't harm anything.
There's not necessarily a concrete definition for every term used in detailing. I was just clarifying that Z5 Pro and Z2 Pro are pure sealants and not abrasive/cleaning polishes.
:)
I found Adam's products to be very easy to use, but the durability is pretty limited (around 2 months).
kgelliot - is this going to be your daily driver or a weekend car?
There are a multitude of products out there that will look great (some more durable than others). It really boils down to how often you are wanting to apply something.
Although sealants are primarily designed for paint, they work on any hard, non-textured surface - paint, glass, wheels, bumpers (chrome and paint), etc.
I wax/seal every exterior surface except for the tires and textured trim
Sealants can be applied by hand or machine, just like any liquid wax.
Many companies make sealants - Zaino Z5 Pro and Z2 Pro, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant, Jeff's Werkstatt Acrylic Jett, Klasse Sealant Glaze, Rejex, Mother's Reflections, Meguiar's #21, etc.
Thanks for the welcome :cool
A paint sealant is essentially a wax on steriods (ie. greater durability and heat tolerance). Check out an automotive detailing forum...they think the idea of paint sealants has some merit, too. Periodic waxing with paste wax isn't going to give you anything more than periodic protection. :)...
The problem with using a typical paste wax is the fact that it doesn't hold up to the heat that is generated in that area. Stick with a durable paint sealant.
