I think before anything else you need to put in a rebuilt ECM from an auto parts store - remember to change the prom from the old into the new. Also remember the direction the prom is in, so it can go into the new one the same way - if its reversed you will get a solid check engine light.
My 81 is very trouble free - once you get it in shape your good, as with any car. I think the key with a c3 is to drive them and not let them sit. I am also looking for a c5 but want to keep my 81 as well. You dont see many in nice shape anynore, and I dont take it out that I dont get a comment...

I stripped mine myself using Captn Lees stripper that I got from one of the suppliers. Worked great and have had no paint problems in the last 12 years. I did as much prep as possible as I couldnt justify an expensive paint job that costs more than these cars are worth!

Was just wondering what your times were. I havent ever tried, but it would be interesting to see where we sit. The only published time I could find was 0-60 in 7.2 at 15.4. This was a 4 speed tested by Car And Driver.
Since the ECM controls all timing there is no way to set it except at base idle. By advancing that setting if advances the timing thru the entire range. At least thats how I understand it. I was playing with mine the other day and set it at 16 degrees just to see how it would run. Didnt seem to...
