I was testing my alternator today using the matrix in the shop manual. I'm pretty sure the alternator is shot- I was getting 8v (battery voltage only) at the BAT post- seems like I should get 12-14v. However, I continued the test and checked the voltage at the the #1 connector. The matrix says...
The A/C on my '81 hasn't worked in a long while. The A/C clutch never engages. So yesterday, I checked the A/C clutch by running a wire from the battery to the positive terminal on the compressor. Bingo- clutch engaged. So now I suspect the switch in the dash, but I'd like to check the pressure...
My 81 seems to take a long time for the engine to warm up and come off of fast idle. It usually takes 15 minutes for the car to settle down after starting it up in the morning (garaged). During that time, the engine is idling at about 2k rpm.
Is 15 minutes to warm up normal?
I found a HID conversion kit from ASA that looks like it might work in a C3.

The bulbs are the correct 5.75" diameter, but they extend pretty far in.
The kit is pricey, but bolt in HIDs would be a huge improvement over our stock lights. Has anyone tried this?
I am beginning my research on a crate engine for my L81. It seems like everyone + dog builds small block Chevrolet motors. There is just so much information to parse through, and I don't know enough about the topic to know what I don't know. I'm looking for some advice.

Well, I received my new brake kit from VB&P. I managed to change the front left caliper with no problems at all, but I've run into a big problem with the front right:the brake line fitting is rounded off. How do I loosen the fitting without making it any worse...

Does anyone here know why the dash harness for the 81 is so much harder to find than other c3 dash harnesses? Of course, hard to find means big money for a fistful of wires and some GM connectors. I just don't see anything special about it that justifies the price. :confused
