This is great - thanks Gary. I'll have a read - still learning how to do my own work on this car. If I get good enough (and confident enough) with working on the car - maybe a lift in the garage may become an option...makes work like this much easier.
Thanks for the response. I just was not sure how necessary it was to put 4 stands under the car, but it makes complete sense to keep the car level. I guess I have to go buy two more stands for my saturday morning project. Thanks again
Hi all,
I have seen many posts regarding a whining noise from the rear axel when the car is in gear and moving. At this point I have to assume it could be coming from the differential and plan on starting by draining the old fluid and replacing it with new. Any helpful hints on doing this...
Unfortunately (or fortunately) I am taller than 4 feet, so that could pose some issues in reaching bolts etc. Sorry, not up on my acronyms, AIM? and FCB? Is one of these the assembly manual, I have that and it helps somewhat - but doesn't really help answer the question on which is the easiest...
Does anyone know the easiest way to remove the center (shift) console in a 69? It seems that you have to dismantal many parts: cluster panel, radio, map pocket area, etc. to remove this piece since it is bolted down by the cluster panel. Any tricks, or is this one of those tedious all day events?
I took the alternator out today, unfortunately not the original though - It didn't have the correct stampings, etc - so no chicken lips here, too bad. I turned it in for a remanufactured one at Andvanced Auto. The one I bought had a higher amp rating at 63 amps. You guys were right, very easy to...
Rebuilding it myself may be a project for a different time, I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet. I think I will go with a slightly higher amp rating and see what happens. Thanks
I took minifridge's advice and took the car to and auto parts store to have it tested last night, seems like no charge is feeding back to the battery. I'll take out the alternator on Saturday and have them test that as well in one of the auto store's contraptions. I'm not quite sure yet, but the...
Thanks for the feedback.
The car does not really have many electrical accessories, except the radio. There is no AC, pwr windows, anything esle. It is a 427 390 HP.
If I go with a higher amp rating, will it do damage to the car?
Thanks again guys
I just installed a new battery in my car about a month ago and now its dead. After charging and starting the car, I disconneted one of the battery terminals and the car shut off. Is it correcty to assume I need to replace the alternator at this point or could it be something else?
It seems...
It ended up being that the brakes needed to be bled after all. After I did that, the pedal was firm again. There seemed to be a lot of air in the lines and I can only suspect that the place I bought the car from a few months ago didn't change the fluid or did a lousy job of it. Anyway, it ended...
Thanks for all the feedback - hopefully its the $5.00 solution you are referring to. I will try bleeding the brakes this weekend and see what happens - it doesn't seem to difficult to do. Thanks again for all the constructive help guys!
I'm trying to fix most of the issues with my car by myself, rather than taking it somewhere - but never really did any major mechanical work on my cars - aside from oil changes and the basic stuff. A little help would be appreciated with my current issue in which the brake pedal is pretty much...
I am considering using Liquid Glass polish for the first time. Actually purchased the $22 can and I think I may try it this weekend. Anyone have any views on this stuff, I've heard great and not so great things about it. Any suggestions on prepping and polishing it the right way? Thanks for the...
I actually ended up taking the front grill off to tighten the bolt. It was too tight to get up there with a wrench through the opening in the bottom. Once I took the grill off, it was much easier to turn and tighten the bolt.
Perfect size on the bolt, Alan - Thanks again for the help!
Does anyone know the easiest way to reach in and install and secure a bolt for the driver's side of the bumper. I can not seem to get in there - what's the trick?
Also, any idea of the size bolt that is necessary for this installation? I'm assuming the "nut" is already in the bumber.
Thanks all
