Well I've been wanting to repaint my 78 SA vette for a long time because the original paint was pretty much shot. It was heavily oxidized and my bonding strip lines are in full view. However, I don't have $5000+ bucks for a paintjob and part of me didn't want to get rid of the orginality of my...
I was replacing the plugs and wires on my 78 L82 SA and all the plugs looked ok, old but OK, except for one, the #8 cylinder was a bit fouled with oily black residue (all the others were whiteish brown). the engine ran fine with no misfires but based on the coloration, something was up. I...
So I decided to pull the alternator last night so I could replace it with one that works (except it doesn't because the case is off 90* but that's another story) and my 3 year old daughter decides she wants to help. so she pulls up a chair, stands on it and gets armpit deep into the engine bay...
After my Gen light came on my 78, I bought a rebuild kit online and replaced the brushes (one which was broken) and the regulator. I took it out for a drive this weekend and the light came back on after starting it. The battery was charged because it cranked over like normal but the light was...
I pulled the alternato out of the 78 vette to see if it was bad and Advanced auto checked it and it is not generating enough volts. I was thinking that it was the original alternator as I didn't see any paperwork of replacement and it was fairly dingy. Funny thing is that one of the nuts on...
I took the 78 vette out this weekend and the GEN light was on. At higher RPMs it would dim down but never really turn off. The voltmeter showed 13 and she seemed to run normal. The battery is about a year old.
I'm pretty sure the alternator is original but not 100% sure (Don't see any...
Well I decided to take the 78 to work on such a glorious day and got almost to work and she started acting up to the point I had to get her towed back home. I want to know where to start looking to fix the problem.
The Situation:
Highway driving at 65mph. Slowed down for some traffic. After...
my new 78 has a power steering leak and I wanted to check the fluid level (which was bone dry)
The problem is that I had to remove the Alternator and loosen the alternator bracket and power steering pump to tilt it far enough from under the alternator bracket to remove the cap to check.
I am...
I took delivery of my dad's 78 Silver Anniversary L-82 4-speed. I'm happy it's able to stay in the family because this is the car that got me interested in cars and Corvettes at a young age. I remember riding in the back before child seats were the law.
She's a little worse for wear, the paint...
Alright here's the scenario. I have a 78 SA that is waiting pick up for me in north Alabama.
I want to get the car to my house in Texas (Houston area) as cheaply as possible. The car's not current on registration and I would be hesitant to drive it 800 miles without that or a full checkup since...
When I was cleaning the wiper compartment, I moved my wiper and the tension spring popped off. I need to remove the wiper arm from the pivot. What's the proper way to do it and then reattach the spring?
Thanks!
I'm cleaning up the engine bay of the vette and the wiper compartment is an utter mess with a lot of paint overspray and other crud. I would like to spray paint it but wondered what color was acceptable. I figure it was black but is it gloss, semigloss or matte?
Well the old floormats just didn't cut it with a new interior so I bought a new set for my wife's birthday (it's her car after all :) )
Got them from Mid-America and are very happy with the look.
Here they are installed:
And the cutest co-driver:
It's come that time of year where the vettes aren't driven quite as much and the tinkering begins.
Last winter was the interior replacement on our vette. This year the plan is the following:
1. replace body mounts.
2. clean up engine bay including cleaning/repainting engine.
3. installing...
