Which C6 Year Would You Recommend?

Appreciate the comments. I used the data center to better understand which automatic and engine by year. 2005 - 4 speed auto with LS2 2006 to 2007 - 6 speed with LS2 2008 to 2013 - 6 speed with LS3 They all use the same tire sizes, so replacements should not be an issue long haul. So far in my...

Which C6 Year Would You Recommend?

Currently own a 1989 vette with auto that has been extremely reliable and a joy to own. I've noticed several C6 vettes with low mileage (30-40K) for under $25K. I'm after a base model coupe with auto, leaning towards a LS3 engine with 6 speed auto. Any C6 years I should avoid? Please explain...

    Please help

Timmy, Do you have the service manual? If not, well worth the investment. I picked mine up on e-Bay. Need more info... Is this a new issue? I would start out checking the TPS (throttle positioning sensor). You will need a VOM. Voltages need to be checked with engine off at idle and WOT? Plus a...

    Help! 1986 corvette flooding

Additional info... The cold start injector was not replaced, just the 8 cylinder injectors. On my 1989, GM eliminated the cold start injector.

    Help! 1986 corvette flooding

Leaking injectors??? On my 1988, the engine was hard to start during hot soak conditions. Plugs would be wet with gasoline. I tested/measured the fuel pressure as per service manual and could watch the rail pressure drop faster than they should with the engine off. If you don't have a pressure...

    Question: New vats modules?

I stand corrected. According to the FSM under Theft Deterrent System it states "When the Pass Key Module is replaced the new key code may not match... New key needs to be cut...". Regardless, it looks like trial and error until you find the right one that matches your new module.

Help! 1988 C4 Oil Pressure Sender location

Look at the rear of engine, on the driver's side, across from the distributor. It may help to remove the rear plenum plate cover. If you are seeing constant high values around 80, I would check for a disconnected wire to the oil sending unit or an open circuit. If your 1988 is like my 1989, you...

    FSM white or red manuals

Single volumes started in 1989. This changed back to two volumes some time in early 1990s. The single 1989 - 1992??? manuals included the eletrical section.

Help! My '89 Might Be Getting Too Hot to Handle

89vetter, Do you mean extra long cranking time after hot soak? This is the issue I had on my 1988, and it was caused by leaking injectors. When hot, it would restart right up to a minute or two, or after 15 minutes. In between, the injectors were leaking causing an extra rich condition.

Help! My '89 Might Be Getting Too Hot to Handle

DarkRed89Flyer, Do you feel the engine is running hotter now than it did before the intake manifold gasket swap? Two coolant openings are blocked by way of the gasket. The blocked openings are installed towards the front of the engine.

    1989 L98 Quarter Mile ET - 13.846@100.98 with video

Did you lower the air pressure in the rear tires? If I punch the pedal on my 89 auto with 3.07 axle, it generates too much wheel spin. Looks like you ran will a full tank.

Help! Oil leak - 1991 Corvette Convertible

Where is the oil dripping from? The oil plug area? Get under the car and try and trace it back to the source. Look carefully at the rear of the intake manifold where it meets the head and block.

Which direction does the fuel pump strainer go?

According to the 1989 FSM , the fuel strainer runs parallel with the float, with the longer side on the same side as the the float. Check strainer length on any aftermarket non Delco strainers. You don't want the strainer to catch on the tank tray and interfere with fuel flow.

    Horn Botton '89 C4

Pull the horn cover off and see if you can improve the situation by direct pressure on the horn button contact. You should then be able to determine if the issue is the horn button or a poor wire connection. You can pick up replacement horn buttons for around $20.

Help! Rear hatch strut replacement - 1985

If your 1985 is like my 1988 or 1989, then on each end of the strut is a socket that fits over the ball joint which is mounted. If you look at the new struts, you will see the empty socket and a wide metal clip. The clip slides out away from the open end to either remove or install. No need to...

    Quaker State with zinc added.

Quaker State Quote... The use of ZDDP in motor oil has seen a gradual decline since 2001 in order to minimize or eliminate clogging of oxygen sensors and catalytic converters in modern cars due to volatile phosphorus. Prior to 2001, the typical concentration was roughly 1300 to 1400 parts per...
