    Help! 1988 Odometer problem

The odometer on my 1988 coupe quit working. I purchased a used stepper motor off ebay, installed it, but did not work. Then, purchased a complete used odometer/stepper motor assembly and installed it. Still no odometer movement. The rest of my instrument cluster works just fine including the...

    Dead Odometer on my '88

Hi All, The odometer died recently on my '88 coupe. After researching posts covering the problem, purchased and installed a used odometer motor off ebay. Unfortunately that didn't fix the problem. On the second attempt I bought a used odometer and motor assembly, installed it but still no luck...

Help! OVERHEATING IN MY 90 VETTE

You may want to check for debris build up in the space between the front of the radiator and the back of the A/C condensor. There's just enough room in there to catch all kinds of things and mat up the face of the radiator cooling fins. My '88 had a similar symptom and after cleaning out the...

blue smoke only when I open it up?

JimBob's right on the mark. Old school rule of thumb, if it smokes on start up, check top end, usually valve guides. If it smokes under strain, check the bottom end, usually rings.

blue smoke only when I open it up?

I forgot to mention one other thing, check your PCV valve as it can also cause pressure build up in the crankcase. Take it out, shake it and see if it rattles freely.

blue smoke only when I open it up?

No, not necessarily, could just be getting blow by when you really stomp it. If the rings were letting a lot of compression by, you would see some blue smoke when you remove the oil filler cap while just idling.

blue smoke only when I open it up?

If you don't find any oil leakage, may want to run a compression check. Could be bad piston rings on one or more cylinders.

    New Shocks

I posted this very same question on a different forum a while back and never got a reply. It's good to hear positive results with the KYB's, the cost savings over the original brand is worth consideration. My '88 Z52 still has some generic shock which was on the car when I bought her. Only...

    Engine Problem

I had similar problem on my '88. Appears your car might be going into "limp home mode". You didn't say, but when it occurred on my car, I also got a trouble code "33". I changed out the 2 relays for the MAF, and it's been fine since.
