Ok ill just take the old spring out for the bottom. As for the leaving the cap off and purging the system, i did not know i had to do that since this is my first time replacing it. Thanks everyone for the help.

Ok the old lower hose did have a spring in it i will have to get another one. should that fix the problem because the top one collapses too and i didnt change anything about the cap.

I just replaced my thermostat and the housing along with both of the radiator hoses. Plus i flushed out the system. Does anyone know why the hoses are collapsing? Thank you, Doug

On my 74 the pump is not below the bottle it is connected to the wiper motor. It pumps it threw a tube that goes threw the cap and into the reservoir. I think that the pump is just messes up.

Its the washer fluid pump right by the wiper motor but i emailed corvette world and they said to try and prime it first.
