Help! Need help identifying dash light - 1980

Okay, that could be one of two things (i think) 1) your light bulb for the climate controls. This connects to the top of the center console in the middle so the climate controls are lit up OR 2) the light bulb for the gear shifter if an auto.

Help! Need help identifying dash light - 1980

Is the car pretty much original or did bubba get at it. Do you have a picture of this light bulb

What color should I repaint my '81?

White is always a classy corvette colour. And red is certainly the staple for sports cars. However, I am partial to blue, sort of like the black it has to be done right or it just doesn't look good. When people see the car they either love the colour or hate it there doesn't seem to be any...

C4 AC blower in an '81

I just did mine, I only replaced the motor as the fan was okay and I don't use the air much anyhow. Yes it is in a tight spot! After I removed all the screws via the side vent and pulled out the unit i disconnected the fan from the motor while still in the car, then the motor will drop down...

Oil Pan gasket or rear main seal

I also have the exact same oil drip as you described. Pretty sure it is the rear main seal as the pan gasket seems to be okay. It is just a small regular oil drip. Not looking forward to replacing!! good luck with yours

    Ouch - I think I need a rebuild

Well, I think you just desrcibed a bad cam with worn lobes. If that is the original it wouldn't surprise me. GM had a lot of trouble with cams in the early 80's. I repalced mine 2 years ago. It had the exact symptoms as you describe. The lobes were worn so bad that one cylinder was just along...

Blinker lights work but dont blink...

I had this similiar problem as well last year. Try simply changing the light bulb first. Both the front and rear light and signal indicater in car came on but stayed on, no blinking. I simply replaced the rear tail light and everything worked just great. However, that was just on one side.

    Ticking sound from engine...

I had this same problem last year. I replaced the cam, lifters and rods etc. The cam lobes were very worn. Now the engines purrs!! no ticking, I am pretty sure that it was contributed to the cam. Good luck with yours

Question: Is this out of place?

Nothing like that on my 81, only the shifter light and it is not that bright as you describe. You are probably right..it was BUBBAISED. I have a light in the glove box turns on when open and turns off when glove box closed.

Car Dies After Driving for awhile. Carb Loads up?

The exhaust would not effect anything. From what you described it sounds like a fuel problem and is probably carb related. Sometimes it is just trial error before finding the issue.

Car Dies After Driving for awhile. Carb Loads up?

Well it could be a number of things, however it sounds like a fuel issue. I would check the fuel filter, accelarator pump, fuel pump, vacuum lines, EGR valve. Stock timing is 6 BTDC. Most of the guys you will find advance them to 10-14. I have mine set at 10. Remember to disconnect your vacuum...

    Question: rough idle........vacuum??

Hi Gents, I am trying to pin down my idle problem. When cqar is initally started up and is warm it idles not to bad. However, when car is driven about 2 mile or so the idle seems to be worse. It idles at about 750-800 rpm but it just sounds and feels a bit off almost like it is missing. I have...

Question: mystery vacuum leak, worse when I turn lights off

Don't mean to hijack the thread. but no sense in opening a new one when my problem is basically the same. Here is the problem... My lights operate pretty good, they pop up quick with the right one sometimes being a little slower and they both go down quick and together. However, when they go...

Question: mystery vacuum leak, worse when I turn lights off

I have the exact same problem with my 81. When the lights go down the engine begins to idle rough for a few seconds then evens out again. I replaced the acctuators last year as the lights didn't work very well. Now the lights work pretty good with the left one always coming up a little...

    Engine and tranny rebuild

I agree with evolution too. However, just food for thought I just replaced the cam, lifters, balancer, plugs, wires, carb overhaul etc... all for about $800.00 (D.I.Y.)engine runs like new. I thought about a crate but I certainly would be dishing out a lot more than 800.00. Although a new crate...

    Original color or not?

Changed mine from white w/ blue interior to dark metalic blue w/the blue interior. love it. I agree with Peer81, once the paint was removed no longer original. Here is some pics (next page)

    Question: Rear wheel bearings

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. The run out is okay and brakes are good. The yokes are also good. I would say that there is probably about 1/4 inch of play when tire is on and 1/16 to 1/8 inch play when tire is off. I like Sensei's idea of taking it to a good shop. I am good with...
