I do know some slave cylinders were made with the seals installed backward on the pistons. And there were reported problems with either the cast iron ones or the rolled steel ones. Can't remember witch. I'll try and search for more info later on.

Sounds exactly like my LT5. Try this. When you first turn the key go all the way over to the start position. Do not hesitate at the ign on position. Oh and make sure the clutch is pressed all the way in first before you turn the key for an unrelated reason. Now see if the car doesn't start...

Another way to look for leaks is to check the master cyl reservoir fluid level.
