My best guess, based on the few clues I have is that my 61 was born as a 230 hp w/ powerglide.
The clues:
5500 redline
custom bubba clutch pedal
mangled firewall where clutch rod passes through
no evidence of return spring plate on frame ever existing
short yoke on driveshaft, but shaft probably...
I replaced the fuel pump today and found this lovely "custom" part:
The only explaination I can think of is that Bubba drove a retaining bolt in so hard from the front of the block that he bent it? Mysterious are the ways of Obi Wan KeBubba!
The good news is that I finally have a...
I'm hoping this is just a parts issue!
The reverse rod impacts the top of the transmission mount/cross member midway between neutral and reverse.
This is on my '61 with a M20 Muncie and a OEM style shifter. The shifter and rods are new repro's from Paragon which I am installing for the first...
As these projects typically do, my M20 tranny swap in the 61 has escalated into a slightly larger project with a few questions.
During removal of the M21 I discovered a 153 tooth flywheel with an 11" clutch, the correct 553 bellhousing with no front cover, block mounted starter (reason for no...
Does the hard top have any more headroom than the soft top in a C1?
I drove with the soft top up for the first time last night and saw stars when I bounced the top of my skull off of the steel bow when I hit a very small bump!

There is not one single original part in my 61's driveline!
I had thought that perhaps the rear axel had a shot, but when I finally worked my way to that portion of the car this weekend I discovered a open 3.36 "BB" passenger car differential carrier that appears to be from '57 attached to a...
I just ran across this CU block on ebay, item #220522271191.
My problem with it is that the assembly date is Feb 6 (which matches the 5675 vin) but the casting code is Apr 1? Is the D11 possibly NOT the casting date?
If this block is correct it is less than 400 off my 61's vin which is closer...
Since purchasing my 61 I've been trying to determine exactly what type of engine is sitting under the hood and whether or not it is appropriate. Notice I did NOT say "correct". This is a driver and I'm more concerned with reliability and performance. That said, it wouldn't hurt if the components...
While searching the archive I found a post that stated that only two bellhousings were made with the boss for the z-bar bracket.
Since my bellhousing has the boss and appears to be aluminum (according to my magnet), then can I safely assume that I actually have a correct "553" bellhousing?

I have just had my 61 delivered last night and discovered that it was practically undrivable due to the clutch linkage. The pedal is pushed so far forward that I actually have to open the door to bend my leg far enough to get my foot on it!
This car is NOM and has a late 68/9 vintage 350 with a...
