Did my time at Chu Lai
Served my time at MAG-12 ChuLai from April '66 (that's why I drive a '66) to December '67. Aviation Radio Repair on A4 Skyhawks. Not many of these left outside of museums.
Nice work, looks like you could cut out most of the center section of the cross member and then modify it with some welded on channel iron to bolt back in place. I installed a Tremec with the engine still in the '66 but it was a pain....
I don't follow what cross member you are talking about. I never jack under the front (front of engine) or the center cross member. I only jack under the side frame rails near but not under the center cross member. The side frame rails are super strong and I can lift both front and rear wheels on...
I have been jacking up using both rear spring plate and center of side frame rail for 17 years and both work very well. I cut out a large thick rubber pad that I place on the jack to act as a cushion. I think it was and old home plate from my softball days. Anyway, this gets the car up high...
Are you sure that the lower pulley is a Corvette pulley? They are smaller that a full size or mid size pulley. I found this out when dropping a 454 in a '66 coupe.

Another great book is "Why GM matters: Inside the race to transform an American icon" by W. Holstein. This book came out in early 2009 right before the bankruptcy.
What a great pictorial in the .pdf, I had my oil guage restored at "Corvette Clocks by Roger" in Jackson, TN. He attends most Corvette shows around the country and I think he does an exchange program if you don't want to wait for yours.
