I recently replaced the intake manifold gasket on my son's 1991 Corvette. While it was apart we also took the radiator out and cleaned it since it was overheating during the summer when at idle. We spent a good deal of time cleaning the engine bay as well. Unfortunately, it sat in my shop for...
I forgot to mention it hasn't been cranked in 8 months. I talked to a mechanic friend and he thinks it is just the lifters having the oil leaked out of them over time. I drove it about 20 minutes and it has quietened down a lot. He was probably right. There was also oil under the rocker cover.
I have just completed replacing the intake manifold gasket. I started the car and checked the timing. It was within 2 degrees. I set the timing but I have noticed I am not getting any oil to the rockers. I assume the distributor is in wrong but it is in time and runs, albeit with a distinct...
I agree that I probably did not cut new threads but I may have raised a bur that is keeping the bolt from going any further. I'm not really sure what kind of wire drill tool you are talking about. Are they called by another name?
I am doing an intake manifold gasket replacement and was running a tap through the bolt holes to clean them out. The last one did not feel right from the start so I did not go very far before backing out. I tried the bolt in the hole and it will only go in about 3/8-1/2 inch before stopping...
My son and I are in the process of replacing the intake gasket on his 1991 Corvette with the L98 engine. Since the car has 100k miles we have also removed and cleaned the radiator and are replacing the thermostat, EGR valve and valve cover gaskets. We are also refinishing the valve covers. My...
My son's 91 model will flash the ABS light after you have been driving for about 10 minutes. It stays on for a few seconds and then goes off just like it would at startup. After that it does not come on again. Any ideas?
Thanks for the tips. The sad part is we replaced the injectors last year and could have done this but it was not leaking then. The car only has 87,000 miles so I doubt the internal components are hurt. I was reading last night and found that oil is a very poor conductor of electricity. It...
Think I may have found the problem. The starter is soaked with oil from the rear oil leak. I took the electrical connections loose and clean them. Put them back on and the car started like normal. If this proves to be the issue I see a long day (maybe two) of fixing the oil leak.
My son's 91 Corvette had a very low battery (65%) and I replaced it. The new battery dropped almost immediately to 85% when it was installed. I took my multimeter tester and connected it between the negative cable and negative post and it immediately blew the 200 milliamp fuse in the tester...
I connected mine to the gear indicator light. It was close and easy to tap into. I just ran a short wire from the stereo to the light which is about 1 foot away. All the illumination wire is looking for is current that drops when the lights come on or dim. It works fine and the stereo dims...
I am replacing the Bose Gold head unit in my son's car and I now have the tuner/amp bypass ready to connect to the CDM. The only wire from the head unit that I do not know what to connect to is the illumination wire. This wire is the one that dims the display when the lights are on. Anyone...
That is the location for the 93-96. I broke down and bought the instructions online. The CDM is under the glove box, behind the fuse panel on a 90-92. You have to remove the faceplate to the fuse panel and then remove the bottom panel where the courtesy light is. Then you can gain access to...
I am replacing the stereo in my son's car and we are using the tuner/amp bypass harness so as to not replace the speakers. Where is the tuner/amp located and how do I get to it?
My son and I put the car back together last night. That was also a comedy of errors. The first thing I noticed was the passenger side runner, which won't go on with the fuel rail installed, was actually the driver's side runner.:)
I remove the bolts and lifted up the fuel rail, slid it out...
Guage was working previously. We shut it down for about 10 minutes and when we cranked it up it was about 200. Drove it around a little and the temperature never moved above about 205. I will bleed the cooling system when I get a chance. I am sure there are procedures for that on here somewhere.
