You really have to remove the mirror from the door, then remove the 2 screws holding the mirror head to it's base, then the the assembly comes out. Not an easy task.
Breaking the glass will give access, cover the glass with masking tape then break the glass. but make sure you have a replacement...
The temp control, bottom lever, does have a cable to control the temp. Does the lower lever move? If it does when it is moved to ti's limits can you hear a "bump"indicating the temp door is moving.?
I have been using D-6 in my '82 for almost 2 years, no ill effects, did notice shift improvement and cooler trans temp. The transmission has 60K miles, drained pan, replaced filter and flushed cooler, what was in the convertor was left. I changed my '04 100K mile Blazer 4X4 when D-6 first...
You can access the bolts retaining the U joint from the front. Use an extension and I believe the socket is a 1/4" 12 pt. You can then push the drive shaft in to the transmission, that will give you the clearance needed.
I would use a body filler with impregnated fiber glass (Kitty Hair) and use a large soda straw about 3/8" dia.for the mold. Let it set up and drill the screw holes. It should hold to the console pretty well.

All my enquirers came back with nothing, all said they come on the arms, I just made one and attached it to my arm. Some day maybe I'll get the right stuff. ;shrug
Take the mufflers off. I removed my mufflers on my '82 when rust over took the inlet pipes and replaced them with 2 1/2", 90* exhaust pipes, they exit just behind the rear wheels, not very loud, quiet when idling but sound similar to the high price mufflers mentioned here when accelerating, very...
I think the choke circuit on some GM vehicles was through the wiper circuit, and picked up it's power from there. Save running another wire through the firewall. (Yellow wire?)
I really don't think it has one, the shop manual mentions one tied into the doors, tops & hatch (lt blue, ckt 263) but the wiring diagram doesn't show it.
I have looked before and gave up.
I will look at my info and double check.
Mine was in the '82 YM group that was lost. Check NMC site for your SN. I did get the dealer invoice from GM hertiage center and the NCM was able to recreate the window sticker from that but not the build sheet.
Mine is different, faded orange to yellow the X flag is similar to the late 70's. The speed sensor is in the rear of the speedo and is used by the ECM. Definitely an aftermarket of some sort and is accurate with the GPS.
Got a 175 MPH in my '82, put there by a PO. The X flags don't match the tach, but what the heck, it just looks cool, I'll take the points hit. :upthumbs Who wants an 80 MPH in a Vett??????
